Apr 29, 2012Superman Returns was one of the few Superman games that I thought looked like it would be somewhat decent. That was exactly what it was; somewhat decent. A few positive features about it was that you free roam, but as Superman! This means you can fly, run, and have all his superpowers. The fighting combos were cool, but barely responsive. Now, it is time for the negative. The enemies, levels, and city were all repetitive and bland. The only time you can free roam is before a chapter because Metropolis is always needing you within a chapter and you can not escape them. At least the game did not try to copy the movie because that was even worse! The ending is extremely easy and very anticlimactic. If you are, understandably, getting bored of the monotonous gameplay, you have another option. You can rescue 100 kittens across Metropolis that disappear at a certain distance, or you can play as Bizarro for 2 minutes. That is about it as far as sidequests. Basically, the game is somewhat fun to play as Superman going Mach 4 in the air across Metropolis, but bland and repetitive gameplay… Expand
Jul 1, 2014I played this game. Yes I did. I had the patience to sit through 50% of this abomination. Not only is this game bad, it's nearly unplayable. I was lucky to get so far, and guess what? I CHEATED to get where I got. This is one of the most mysteriously bad games ever, I'm the second person to review this game, really!
The CGI cutscenes look like a rejected Bliss Corporation music video, the tutorial is impossible and even if you beat that you can't get through the first boss(es). The graphics are typical PS2 so I can't really complain about that but the real horror is the gameplay.
Superman's powers are useless and really difficult to use so you might as well be punching everything. The enemies are so hard even on Easy that you'll give up and let yourself die sometimes! What's worse is that your health bar is really confusing! In the second level you have to gain the crowd's favor on War World, but they'll always favor the other guy you're fighting so it's useless!!!
The story is just wrong, not even sensible. You start in a tutorial, and meteors come to Earth, WHY?! The next level is Superman in War World fighting some ugly alien guy or something and then you're in Metropolis. Freedom? I think not! It's like this: you have a whole city to have fun with but you are constantly (not even joking here) having to save the day and it NEVER ENDS.
You just go to the spot on the map that's red and fight the baddies (robots, dragons, etc.). You gain XP but it's useless, it gives you new moves that you'll never bother to learn and use. That's ALL. You do the same schtick every time, over and over hoping something different will happen, well guess what? It doesn't.
I don't think I'm giving anything away by saying that this game sucks. I really tried, really. I had to use cheats because Metropolis kept dying. That's right, Metropolis, the GAME WORLD ITSELF, has a health bar... WOW, you guys really stooped low on this one didn't you.
Your better off playing Superman 64! At least that game's playable, at LEAST. I mean come on, you guys took another chance and blew it. Well, it's actually not that surprising seeing how it is a licensed movie tie-in video game, they are meant to suck. Well they failed because no one bought this game.
This was supposed to be my little brother's game and he stopped playing after 5 seconds. Not even joking. It SUCKED THAT MUCH. I even made a YouTube review of this game, I really needed to show the world how bad it is.
It is SO BAD that people don't even care to know it exists.… Expand
