When you figure out how you're actually supposed to play the game, it becomes a reasonably enjoyable action/puzzle game that would be especially good for younger players. It won't win any beauty pageants (or settle debates about evolution), but you can do worse for $20.
  2. If evolution worked like it's supposed to, this game would have come out before Pikmin, maybe by about 35,000 years or so. But no, video game evolution works backward, beginning with an intelligent design and ending with countless dim-witted offspring. This is the story of one such far-fallen apple.
  3. In some respects, The Adventures of Darwin effectively mirrors "Pikmin"’s unique style. But it comes up short as a PS2 strategy game.
  4. So while The Adventures of Darwin isn't a AAA title, nor is it without its flaws, it still manages to be a fun little diversion that's worth a try.
  5. The Adventures of Darwin shares many similarities to another obscure (when it was released) budget title, Katamari Damacy, but Darwin lacks the quirky charm and hyper fun of that game, and so will likely be forever relegated to the bargain bin.

If the theory of natural selection holds true, The Adventures of Darwin will find its way into the bargain bins of the world in no time flat. And if you have any intelligence in your design, you'll stay far, far away.
  7. If you’ve ever played the captivating "Pikmin" titles on GameCube, you’ve seen this exact kind of game done infinitely better in every single way – way cuter, clearer goals, more unit variety, vastly superior controls, pathfinding and graphics, etc.
  8. At best this would be a good hand-me-down game, passing from one kid to another to try to impart a lesson or two about natural history before he or she moves onto something a whole lot more fun. But that’s a stretch of Biblical proportions. Darwin probably wouldn’t approve.
  9. Strategy fans may like it more than I do, and that's fine, but I really couldn't get into the game at all.
  10. A good effort to be innovative, trying out some new twists on existing gameplay mechanics. The game delivers a somewhat enjoyable experience. A couple of tweaks, and this game could've been very solid.
