  1. The control of the vehicles is tricky to master but possible if you have the patience.
  2. Word of advice to the developers: When creating the next installment of this franchise, do what you did with the presentation end of things, and almost completely rip-off "Grand Theft Auto," and their gameplay. It’ll make this sort of title appeal to almost everyone.
  3. A great game for the over-30 crowd, though, which is something we don't get to say often. [Dec 2004, p.108]
  4. Too bad the sugar in this car's tank comes in the form of handling that is as unresponsive as heavily handling can be. Driving like the Good Ol' Boys is often a matter of luck, while that holler button does get annoying after a few hours.
  5. If "Driver" married its cousin, there's a good chance the spawn of said union would look a lot like The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee. [Oct 2004, p.129]
  6. The General Lee's controls are really rough. I don't think I have played a driving game that handles this poorly. It's so loose that sometimes it's outright hard to control.
  7. It features a plot worthy of the TV series, a number of the original TV actors reprising their roles...and boring, frequently broken gameplay that absolutely ruins the entire experience.
  8. Gameplay is nothing but slippery physics and monotonous driving around Hazzard County through 15 different "Driver" knockoff missions. [Holiday 2004, p.96]

The car never really feels grounded, but rather appears to float at a high rate of speed. It doesn't take much more than too much gas and too sharp a turn to start spinning, adding unnecessary aggravation to some of the longer missions.
  10. It’s true to the show that inspired it in almost every possible way but Return of the General Lee just falls flat thanks to awful controls and several glaring glitches scattered throughout.
  11. It’s not a fun game, and what little is here gets real old real fast.

Here, the game is little more than an excuse to take a tour through Hazzard County in 3D and drive recklessly. This would almost be appealing, but problems quickly pop up here, there, and, you guessed it, everywhere. The biggest problem is with the General Lee's control and it goes on from there.
  13. The whole nostalgia thing was nostalgic a few years ago. That’s a sad state of affairs, folks. Are we so void of new material, or can we spread our creative wings a little more than this?
  14. What can I tell you except to stay away from Hazzard County at all costs.
  15. 40
It is fun to go around doing some crazy stunts, but it can get old after a while. Unfortunately that's the only fun part of the game.
  16. 40
It feels like every single car in the game is driving around on bald tires. No matter what you do, you’ll be sliding off the road.
  17. How many rednecks does it take to enjoy The Dukes of Hazzard: Return of the General Lee? Three! One to play it, one to drink his beer and one to shoot the player when he asks to be put out of his misery. Unless you’re a die-hard fan, look elsewhere.
