  1. One of the easiest Sims to play with an interesting adventure game style. [Dec 2007, P.66]
  2. A brilliantly open-ended game that's as great to learn as it is to master. [Dec 2007, p.84]

In the end, Sims 2: Castaway is one of the more entertaining Sim titles to come out in a while and you'd be doing yourself a disservice by not giving it a shot. It's certainly not a stereotypical Sim title and almost anyone can pick this game up and give it a whirl.

A beautiful example of how Maxis' long-running series can renew itself and even become appealing to console owners. There's plenty to do, a lot to discover and even when everything is done players can decide to stick around the islands and keep tinkering.
  5. If you enjoy the Sims games, welcome the challenge of open-ended gameplay, and don’t mind some of the building limitations, you might also have a blast with Castaway’s unique take on classic Sims 2 gameplay.

While it gives an interesting twist on the standard shipwreck concept, the hampered nature of the guidebooks, strange placement of plans in menus and continual micromanagement does hamper some of the fun of the title. However, Sims fans will find this to be a good break from the traditional Sims formula.
  7. Unfortunate technical problems bring down what is otherwise the freshest new take on a console Sims game yet.

I really enjoy Sims 2 Castaway. It took the stressful stat management that made Lost in Blue ulcer inducing and turned it into a funky, fun, "Lost" kind of experience.
  9. Not a classic but probably one of the best Sims on consoles. It’s true that some of the magic is lost due to some objectives with obscure solutions and the excessive loadings. But the concept can be quite appealing at times. [Dec 2007]
  10. It may not be the best simulation ever or even in the series itself, but it makes for a rather lengthy adventure with plenty of charm.
  11. Die-hard Sims 2 fans might do well to avoid this, while those looking to enjoy the challenge of surviving on a deserted island – and who do not mind a bit of redundant tasks – should find this a decent escape.
  12. Sadly, the best Sims game for a long time is almost crippled by tiresome loading times that hobble the action. [Christmas 2007, p.111]

It's hard to say whether you'll have the patience to create a life of virtual luxury, or lose your sanity and find yourself seeking the quickest way out of the life of a castaway.
  14. While the game's concept and execution are commendable, the horrendous load times constantly interrupt your experience--but if you don't mind waiting five second to access your inventory (or twenty to change zones), you'll find some humorous sandbox fun. [Holiday 2007, p.77]
  15. It took the stressful stat management that made Lost in Blue ulcer inducing and turned it into a funky, fun, “Lost” kind of experience.
  16. Simply one long fetch quest. [Christmas 2007, p.82]
  17. I love the concept, and applaud the idea of using the Sims framework to create something more hands-on in nature...But the game is undeniably patchy and full of scrappy design decisions that push the player away rather than drawing them in. It's so rough around the edges that I even ejected the disc to check it said review code.

This game I played it to death and even to this day I play it for hours. Must have. You need to ban together with other sims to make a small comunity of sims on the island and givd them jobs to assist the rest of the groups The only thing that holds it back are the loading screens they are so long but it is a great game. Sims 2 Castaway is a very fun game! While a lot of the Sims games focus is building relationships between your characters and decorating, it's fun to see a Sims game where your focus is about survival, while still having the option to do normal Sims-game type stuff like relationships and decoration, even if it isn't in as much depth as the other games. Definitely recommended. Full Review »
