Given that everything is still so familiar at the core, there's no way of getting around the feeling that all these new options are ultimately still baby steps in the evolution of the franchise.

The first game in the series that doesn't fully deliver the goods. One can't help but feel like the series needs a shot in the arm to get players excited again.
  3. Other than the sound, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 06 does everything needed to help give the franchise a breath of fresh air. It’s nice to see that EA Sports can do more than just throw in one new play or change one part of a game.
  4. You will find success early and often in Tiger 06, and though that may not sound like such a bad thing, it isn't necessarily true to the spirit of the sport, where triumphs--however minor--need to be earned, not simply offered to you for the taking.
  5. I'm surprised and saddened that this was outdone by a two-year-old game. EA's trying some new things here, but they don't quite work yet.
  6. This year they tried to futz with the gameplay, but the changes are so minute that most veterans will seamlessly transition from last year’s game to this one. Whether or not it’s worth the green fees depends a great deal on your love of the game, but chances are you’ve already aced this course.
  7. It looks and sounds better than ever, with a host of real and fantasy modes and characters, a mix that offers a lot of variety for both casual and hardcore gamers. As always, it's a game that's easy to pick up and very difficult to put down.
  8. EA introduces new GameBreaker and Rivals features into the Tiger Woods franchise, creating a solid but unspectacular golf title.
  9. There are no massive revolutions since last year but this still easily retains its 'king of the swingers' crown. [Nov 2005, p.118]
  10. There is really very little to complain about. After my first hole-in-one I am still desperately chasing another one despite the odds. Highly addictive. [Oct 2005]
  11. The only bogeys are a still-clunky interface - no auto-save, you can only adjust stats at certain times, etc. - a skittish camera, and overly long pre-and-post-swing reaction shots that drag on and on. [Nov 2005, p.85]

This year's Tiger feels more complex and sophisticated than ever. Putting is more challenging (e.g., total bitch)... Yet, the game is still accessible to armchair golfers, thanks to those welcome arcade-y touches.
  13. 2006's biggest flaw is the lack of change. Players who own Tiger’s 2004 or 2005 incarnation have little reason to buy this edition.
  14. Easily the best golf game to date on a console. The gameplay is solid and has been refined over the years. The course selection is great, and the Tiger Proofing adds more to those courses.
  15. The new putting system is improved over the previous method, but it needs some refining before it can be mentioned in the same breath as the analog swing.
  16. Those who haven't played the previous games will be awestruck by how much depth the game has, and how much it takes to get the hang of each function.
  17. Even with the disappointing sound aspect, it has improved on its previous faults and included enough extra to warrant a purchase.

The best golf game available so far. The game features excellent graphics, a large range of detailed real life courses and a large number of controllable characters.
  19. It's not a revolution, but it's an improvement. [Nov 2005, p.140]
  20. For years I've been saying that the only significant problem with the Tiger games is the putting interface. So what did they do this year? They made putting harder by removing caddy tips and employing the same analog swing interface as tee shots.

What remains to be seen is whether EA can reintroduce a suitable element of difficulty to knock the series back in the right direction without forcing an unintentional bogie.
  22. It's certainly not earth-shattering fare, but as an immersive golf title full of Pringletastic depth, Tiger Woods PGA Tour 2006 is simply the best around. [PSW]
  23. A great game, but telling you this is a must have title is just silly. While the game is extremely well done, there is just not enough here to warrant adding another Tiger game to your collection.
  24. So here's the skinny: Buy "Tiger Woods" if you're new to the game. But I'm sticking with my old friend for now.
  25. EA's latest is a touch harder, comes with a reworked swing system that's a great compromise between finesse and simplicity, and includes a smooth new career mode. What's not to like?

It is still far from revolutionary, but Tiger Woods PGA Tour '06 is the virtual golfer's best bet for a realistic round out on the links.

Despite the knocks against rivals mode and the fact that the new controls are mostly borrowed from what many consider to be a more simple golf franchise, Tiger Woods 06 is still a solid game. Where rivals fails, the more realistic PGA Tour mode is still fun, as is skills 18, a set of target-based minigames.
  28. While I have to give the developers credit for trying out a whole bunch of new ideas, I'd much rather play last year's version. But if you like your golf painfully realistic, maybe you'll prefer it this way. [Nov 2005, p.114]
  29. Visuals are just as refined and gorgeous as previous versions of the series, with new and subtle differences added to give the game increased flare and a more appealing look to the eye.

What the hell.....Why do people have to screw up a good thing when they have it....should have built on 2005 ...And not take the game in a differrnt direction......2006 stinks and I hope they do something quick to fix it or there will be a loss in sales for 2007 Full Review »

Worst Tiger Woods game so far. The game just plays far to inconsistent. All other versions were superior. The new pieces introduced are kind of useless and gameplay is subpar by comparison. Full Review »

I was very unhappy. This game could be great if it did nto take forever to load, and then freeze up. All the TWG games before were much better. I don't think they even played it before they sold it. Full Review »
