There's no shortage of modern racers, but most of the current crop seem obsessed with the attitude of tuner culture than racing itself. Toca Racer Driver 3 has no truck with that: It's all about the driving experience. [Mar 2006, p.80]
  2. Toca Race Driver 3 has always been one of the best racers out there, and this sequel continues its fine tradition. [Mar 2006,p.81]
  3. Every year Codemasters puts out a new version, and it's as sure a bet as anything in this industry that it will be even better than last year's--and that once again it will be mostly ignored by U.S. gamers. [Mar 2006, p.44]
  4. TOCA Race Driver 3 may not be the perfect racing game in terms of physics and feel but there's no other game that can match the outrageous number of different racing styles at such a consistent level of quality.
  5. Codemasters have produced one of the finest and complete racing games ever made and even if you don't like the V8 Supercars (Are you Australian?) then you will find something to like in this huge plethora of racing series. Absolutely positively must buy title!
  6. Perhaps the most pleasing aspect of this new game is that instead of some series being good and others (such as rallying) being very poor, the general quality level of each type of racing is very high.
  7. When it comes to realism, TOCA is now hot on Gran Turismo's heels. As for variety, accessibility and heart, it's already way ahead. [Feb 2006, p.84]
  8. To be quite frank, TOCA Race Driver 3 is a great game - one of the best on the Playstation 2 - and certainly does compare to Gran Turismo 4 in specific areas.
  9. The quintessential sim racing experience available on the PS2. Time will tell if this is the release that pushes the series over the top into mainstream acclaim.
  10. It has more game modes and racing disciplines than any game before it and it's smart enough to cater for beginners and racing nuts alike.

Not only is the game filled with cars to race, car disciplines to pick from, and an enormous amount of replay value to enjoy, it also manages to healthily balance noobs and hardcore gamers.
  12. An excellent racer, and a must for any fan of any form of racing. It replaces and raises the bar in all categories, mixing a huge amount of quantity in styles, cars, and tracks, with a truckload of quality.
  13. TOCA 3 boasts an awesome variety of racing disciplines, and it backs that boast up with some really excellent driving mechanics.
  14. 85
If there's one complaint it's the precision necessary to succeed in completing some of the championships.
  15. The last Toca shot itself in the foot instead of putting the pedal to the metal by restricting players with a linear career structure. Luckily for us, Codemasters has rectified the situation in this newest Toca. [Mar 2006, p.100]
  16. Race Driver 3 understands that a processional win from pole is less fulfilling than a hard-fought, championship-saving fifth place from the back of the grid. And though it can’t exactly engineer those situations, it does everything in its power to make them more likely and leave them unpunished. [Mar 2006, p.87]
  17. Have your driving your way, while still getting enough substance and structure that doesn't feel like a mere test drive.
  18. Car handling is impressive. You can really feel variations in surfaces and the car losing traction if pushed too hard. Passing in heavy traffic takes skill and patience.

The best game in the series yet. If you're after a simulation game with damage or just want to come close to experience what it's like to drive a V8 then you simply cannot go past this game.

If your dream garage has side-by-side parking spaces for an off-road K500 Pro Baja Duneracer, a Williams BMW FW27 F-1 machine, and a vintage Corvette L88 Sunray DX, this is the game for you.
  21. Improvements in the level of detail on offer from the damage modelling to the multi-layered audio, continue to present the game with ever greater realism, and no-one could ever accuse the developers of a lack of variety in the vehicles.
  22. Part of the fun of TOCA is unlocking the new tracks and vehicles and to do that you need to win, no matter which mode you're playing in, after all, you want to get to the good stuff and both game modes offer this variety.
  23. 75
It's still good-ish, just not very enjoyable, which in the scheme of things is probably something of a handicap. [Apr 2006, p.114]
  24. ToCA 3 is not unplayable, but it definitely needs some tweaking. [Mar 2006, p.102]
  25. 65
As it stands, Race Driver 3 suffers from too much variety and not enough substance.
  26. It's strictly for armchair racers that crave variety over substance. [Mar 2006, p.90]

Racing perfection, cars, graphics, tracks and damage, all brilliant! A serious contender to Gran Turismo's crown!
