Lara comes alive with intricately animated expressions, moves and abilities. An arsenal of modern equipment, such as a magnetic grappling device, binoculars, frag grenades, personal lighting device and communications equipment, allows gamers to experience tomb raiding as never before. Eidos and Crystal Dynamics shaped Lara's look and movements to be an inherent extension of her skills, motivation and personality. Lara's character model features natural structure, realistic textures, detailed facial features, reactive eyes and fluid motion, all of which make her part of a living environment. New character animations and controls allow her to move through stunning environments with grace and precision, while an understanding of the game's original appeal reinvigorates the fundamental explore-and-solve adventure experience. The improved graphics make all of the environments you visit look lively and beautiful, both in and out of the jungle and in and out of water. Lighting and shadows are done quite well and provide a very noticeable visual improvement over the last few games as is the audio.
  2. I wouldn't complain if they'd given us a little more, though, but this is definitely a stellar start.
  3. Tomb Raider: Legend fails to be a reinvention of any genres, but succeeds in every way at reinventing itself. [May 2006, p.96]
  4. Lara's reinvention outshines a game that's too slick for its own good - with better boss battles, more epic environments and taxing puzzles, it'd be a classic. [May 2006, p.40]

The cliffhanger story is well put together. The action is simple and effective. The controls not only work, they're fun...Best of all, the sense of discovery and adventure is captured with a fresh sensibility.
  6. If anything, Legend succeeds in assuaging frustration. Puzzles never encroach on the aggravation of yester incarnations due to a RAD (“Remote Analysis Device”) that identifies objects of note. It’s reminiscent of Grim Fandango in the sense that you’re not left to hunt around wildly for the key elements in a conundrum.
  7. Feel free to take Lara out for the weekend, but don’t go looking for a long-term relationship.

In fact, the controls and focus have changed so much that it almost feels like a different genre - puzzle to action - but in any case it's an improvement. In any case, that's how you can describe this game: an improvement. It gets just about everything right, and does it with the next-generation upgrade Tomb Raider has desperately needed. Expand

From the intro, you'd expect a much more action packed game, but alas, it's the same old stuff. The graphics are nicely polished and there is so good atmospheric sounds, but like normal the shoddy camera control lets it all down. Expand

while this is a playable platformer it is still far too reminisant of AOD the origional gameplay mechanics of the first five tomb raiders while this is a playable platformer it is still far too reminisant of AOD the origional gameplay mechanics of the first five tomb raiders should return. this game is too short, too easy, has too few puzzels and iritates true raiders when they pick up the pad, lara is not back.
