  • Summary: Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam delivers an innovative and unique skateboard experience focused on head-to-head racing. The game allows players to feel the breakneck speed of downhill competition as they tear up the world's steepest terrains while performing tricks and outmaneuvering opponents in such locations as San Francisco, Machu Picchu and Hong Kong. Taking on the role of Tony Hawk or one of nine characters, players compete in time-based challenges in one of three gameplay modes including race, trick and slalom. The game features four new single player events, three new multiplayer modes and three new playable characters who contend in the ultimate skateboard racing experience. [Activision] Expand

  1. Jam may lack the luster and polish of the Wii launch title, but this is a game that does a good job fitting the graphics and sound to play style and provides a nice range of game modes.
  2. On Wii, Downhill Jam was a great party game. On the PS2, it’s more like "SSX"-Lite. The game is still fun but if you have a choice get the undoubtedly superior Wii version.
  3. To my shock and confusion, I really liked the game. Why? Because I stopped thinking that I was supposed to be playing “a Tony Hawk game” and started realizing that I was playing a fun arcade racer that happens to have Tony’s name on the box.
  4. Tony Hawk’s Downhill Jam gets an A for effort, but a D for execution.
  5. Tony Hawk's Downhill Jam could have been an interesting take on the THPS formula and a cool combination of Tony Hawk and SSX gameplay, but instead it's a poorly conceived and designed mess.

Downhill Jam simply does not work on a number of levels. It's entirely too easy, there are presentation problems, its racing and trick mix doesn't let either stand out and so on.
  7. At the most, this game is great for punishing ill-behaved children.

For the timeframe the port was done in, the limitations of the ps2 compared to the wii...and the poor design of the original game (Toys for bob....learn2develop) This game is fantastic. New modes and characters...really, how can you give it anything but a 10? Expand
