Its shooting is tame, forward progress is tedious, most enemies are foolish, the environment is dreary, and the unprofessionally delivered storyline is predictable and quite unentertaining.
  2. This hackneyed terrorist shooter is without story, without characters, without originality, and most importantly, without fun.
  3. It focuses too much on the Timeline gimmick but doesn't quite make it feel like a natural part of the gameplay.
  4. With no engaging story or personalities, this title doesn't even come close to hooking you with its shifting, convergent story lines - unlike Without Warning's supposed inspiration, the show "24." [Nov 2005, p.148]
  5. 50
It doesn't help matters that the game plays like a mindless shooter-by-numbers.
  6. There's nothing devastatingly awful about this, it's just thoroughly outclassed by most of everything else on the market.
  7. A simple, one dimensional story, horrible voice acting and frustratingly boring and inconsistent gameplay make Without Warning an easy game to skip this holiday. Fair graphics keep it from being a complete waste of time.
  8. Plays more like a kind of arcade light-gun shooter with legs, and feels like it needed a better script and about six more months of development time.
  9. A pretty-looking but utterly mediocre gaming experience that's little more than space invaders with terrorists. The concept is sound, the storyline is okay, but the implementation just doesn't work.
  10. By any standards that have existed during the last ten, Without Warning is a work of stultifying incompetence that seems to hate its own players. [Dec 2005, p.108]
  11. This could have been so much more, but the shoddy engine and woeful AI let down some fairly solid and slightly confusing concepts. [Nov 2005, p.125]
  12. Testosterone carries Warning. It does not carry it very far, nor very fast. [Nov p.88]
  13. The story and voice acting offered me several unintentional laughs, but inexcusably stupid elements, such as unskippable cut-scenes and the inability to pick up fallen enemies' weapons, pair with rotten gameplay to make this one of the worst games I've played all year.
  14. A smooth shooter with no surprises. Best in small doses. Not bad, but not brilliant either. [Oct 2005]
  15. 40
A game that had a lot of potential in its concept, but a few solid ideas can't make up for poor gameplay.
  16. Without Warning fails miserably at whatever it set out to achieve. A lousy camera and ropey AI take a lot away from the cinematic style, and the sheer weight of repetition involved in the missions does little to expand on an idea that could have become a great title.
  17. Sadly, anything good about the game gets bogged down in the mindless, repetitive blasting.
  18. With a better targeting system and more free-form gameplay, this could have been a winner. [Dec 2005, p.130]
  19. Bad design, with mediocre action, voice acting, and bland missions. [Dec 2005, p.108]
  20. Without Warning has a lot of technical problems, and they can make play repetitive and aggravating. But taking out wave upon wave of terrorists can be fun. It is not high art, but it tries too hard to escape the fun, lighthearted game it really is.
  21. There's no denying what unabashed, volatile fun Without Warning is. But blowing people and stuff up over and over again soon gets tiresome and it's precisely then that the early promise evaporates. [PSW]
  22. Similarly to a game like "The Getaway," Without Warning is one of those games people will either take in and enjoy for what it is or hate with abandon due to its frustrating camera problems and derivative plot that never fully delivers on its unique premise.
  23. You can actually feel your IQ drop as you play. A pretty-looking but otherwise feeble attempt at a political thriller. [Nov 2006, p.148]
  24. 60
Following 6 different storylines works well but I think the developers were aiming for more when they set out and the game just stops short of the goals.
  25. A game that should have been on the PSP. It's perfect for the portable market and there is no reason why Circle shouldn't now port this. However on the PS2 it doesn't work at all because console games need to have deep, long levels with an interesting storyline, neither of which this game has.

This game looks great on the PS2 and the action is OTT and fun.....too bad it was badly received.

This game did nothing to capture my interest. It was doomed from the start for several reasons. Bad camera, cruddy control, bland gameplay and a story that flew through one ear and out the other. It took an effort just to continue playing. It could have been so much better, had creators/developers followed through and at least attempted to create a decent game. Giving the game a three is generous. Full Review »

Quite simply one of the most compelling and atmospheric computer video games to ever grace a console. Live the dream as you play the role of heroic combatants Jack Hopper and Ronald Reagan in a sizzling hellscape of carnage and counter terrorism. The gameplay is 2nd to none - coupled with some of the nicest A.I ever witnessed in a game of this ilk. Shoot your bullet spray towards the terrorists and watch in awe as they deftly duck, dodge and roll at every opportunity to escape your awesome firepower. The characters just feel so.. *ALIVE* that you will quite literally smell the sweat perspiring from them as they engage in some of the finest gun battles this side of `HEAT` the motion picture. The reviews just don't this stunning game justice.. It will be the most tragic, euphoric, upsetting and uplifting game you will have ever experienced that you'll be crying for the rest of the year.
