  1. Besides my complaint about not having enough extras, Anthology also suffers a little from not having an online component.
  2. A solid fighter but with Fatal Fury Battle Archives out on the same day this really cant beat it.
  3. This collection presents something of a quandary; there's no doubt this is a fantastic package and perfectly-priced, and a must-buy for video game historians, fighting game collectors, and fans of the franchise. But the years haven't been kind to Ryoko, Janne, and the other second-rate "stars."
  4. But if you’re a retro fighting game fan and willing to support SNK’s release of their anthologies, then give this a go. Nostalgia has its limits, but at least you’ll be guaranteed one quality game overall.
  5. Get this one if World Heroes was a major part of your childhood. Maybe. Everyone else can steer clear, and pick up one of the many other quality titles from SNK if you want a fighting game fix.
  6. Overall, World Heroes Anthology really isn't much.
  7. Despite the arcade-perfect porting job, this shameless Street Fighter II rip-off hasn't aged well at all.

I was pleased that there was a new Training Mode included in regards to all four titles, but that's about it. I'm not personally fond of the franchise as a whole and find it to be stiff and unrewarding.
  9. There is a major issue when it comes to the speed and responsiveness, and it's so bare-bones that unless you're completely enamored with each game, you'll be bored very quickly.
  10. Unfortunately, the age of the collection is its greatest undoing. While World Heroes certainly isn’t the worst 2D fighter ever made, it isn’t the best, either.
  11. There are some worthwhile additions to the later World Heroes games, and it's suitably priced at $15. Still, it's mediocre fighting at best, and hardly the stuff of Heroes.
  12. It's certainly one for the fans and Neo Geo completionists, but curious retro-heads and fighting game fans might get the wrong impression of SNK if they buy this particular compilation.
  13. With the exception of long time fans of the series, it's hard to recommend World Heroes Anthology to anyone with any real conviction. Thanks to its lack of originality, below par animations and questionably implemented controls, World Heroes Anthology can be seen as little more than an average collection of Street Fighter II clones.

Those who enjoyed World Heroes in the arcades, all twenty of you, will adore this collection from SNK. The conversions are as close as you'll get without owning a Neo Geo and several hundred dollars worth of cartridges. Yet the titles here are far from classics, especially considering SNK's extensive library of 2D fighting games.
  15. A poor homage to a poor series. Avoid like Rasputin's loincloth. [Christmas 2008, p.84]

Okay, they suck by today's standards, but us nostalgic fools will buy anything for that short fleeting feeling. Paying $15 on Amazon for a fresh copy of this is surely comparable to buying $15 of alcohol at a bar! Full Review »

I still get a kick out of playing any WH title! If you are a fan of fighters you really can't go wrong with World Heroes Anthology...especially for the price! Full Review »
