  • Summary: [Playstation Network] 1942: Joint Strike takes inspiration and influence from the 194X series of World War II-themed vertical shooters. The art, sound, and gameplay of the new game takes cues from the original 194X games, but stands out as its own unique entry. Gameplay resembles the classic 2D style that gamers expect, but the game utilizes a full 3D engine. Set in a World War II-themed locale, stages, vehicles, and weapons have the look and feel of WWII with some stylistic differences. The world in which 1942 takes place is not our own and the events that transpire are not historically accurate, nor are they intended to be. This is an alternate world where history and technology developed along their own paths. As a result, players jump into the cockpits of WWII-era aircraft to take on huge waves of incoming enemy fire, dodging explosions and missiles while challenging huge bosses at the end of each stage. New co-op "Joint Strike attacks" combine the powers of two aircrafts into a devastating barrage. [Capcom] Expand

  1. 1942: Joint Strike is a great pickup for any fan of the 1940 series or any fan of shooters in general.
  2. 80
The game's appearance combined with solid controls and generally tight feeling of the game make it more than an old remake, and evidence the success of a less direct tribute.
  3. A game that's just as enjoyable as any other in the series but with a wow factor that far exceeds the vast majority of them. [July 2008, p.123]
  4. If you’re one of those gamers who has a blast playing co-op, then Joint Strike is probably for you. If you're hoping to head through Joint Strike solo, however, you'll undoubtedly be disappointed.
  5. Sure, it's not the deepest of shooters, but for $10, you could do a lot worse than 1942.
  6. 60
No continues or saves, no level selection, weapons aren't balanced.
  7. It is this shortness of experience and relatively shallow gameplay that makes it difficult to see why it is worth the £6.99 asking price, comparing it to many of the other titles available on the PlayStation Network.

This game is a must for all fans of classic top-down shooters, and fans of the series. If you like shooters, then you'd be a fool not to grab this one up at the $10 asking price. Collapse

If you were a fan of the 80s original arcade game, you will love this new upgrade. It is super fun in short bursts trying to get new high scores. And for only $10 bucks you can't go wrong. Expand

Looks ok, plays ok but its too short for the price tag. Can't understand that for such a short game it does not loop back to the start but at a harder level. Basically the game ends when you get through the last level which only takes about 25-30 mins. Expand
