  1. As fun and fast as it should be. [Aug 2009]
  2. Overall, 3 on 3 NHL Arcade for the PlayStation Network is a perfect game for those looking for a casual, simple, quirky and enjoyable hockey game for a fraction of the cost of a regular priced EA Sports title.

Even with the issues, 3 on 3 NHL Arcade's a must-play for fans of arcade sports, and I want to commend the makers for mercifully extracting the pointless bloat of pre-game intros and a circling zamboni between periods.
  4. A great sports game. [Apr 2009, p.104]
  5. There is no doubt that 3 on 3 NHL Arcade is missing some key features like a Season or Tournament mode, it needed something. Lucky for the guys and gals over at EA, 3 on 3 NHL Arcade works from top to bottom giving a really great arcade hockey experience.
  6. 3 on 3 NHL Arcade doesn’t have a comprehensive slate of gameplay modes and options, and it’s easy to write it off for that reason. But what’s there is enough to keep gamers coming back again and again: tremendously enjoyable core gameplay, superb sound design, impressive visuals, and a wonderfully old-school-oriented multiplayer experience.
  7. 3 on 3 NHL Arcade is a fun and addictive action packed game, it also looks very well polished, with bobbleheaded hockey players flying up and down the ice in a manic fashion.
  8. Hardcore hockey fans might find NHL Arcade too simple, with its lack of official teams, arenas or any kind of tournament mode. However, it's loads of fun against friends, online or off.
  9. Despite being quite shallow, internally as well as on the surface, this downloadable title still has some depth to it. Sure, there are few rules, modes and teams offered here, but the most important ingredient is in place. If you're in the mood for a fast paced arcade hockey experience there is tons of fun to be had here. It's not a game you'll be setting up tournaments in, but if you like some easy going hockey fun there are fun games to rival this one.
  10. 3 on 3 NHL Arcade is a fun little hockey tackle game for 2+ persons. Playing solo gets a bit boring after a short while, but with a bunch of friends, in your living room or online, 3 on 3 offers a great deal of entertainment and competition. On the downside the settings have to be configured every time and aren't saved for future sessions, and the music and menu sounds are annoying.
  11. Minimal load times, fast-paced on-the-ice action and a steady array of power-ups make for a game that plays well, controls well and has only a slight learning curve. What hurts the game is the lack of game options - there are really only three ways to play it and two are online.
  12. 70
The gameplay is solid and the online mode works fairly well, but a severe lack of features really dampens the experience for those expecting more from EA’s latest.
  13. 62
This does lack the longevity that other PlayStation Network games have and it's likely to be pretty forgettable. [Issue#88, p.89]
  14. 3 on 3 NHL Arcade is a game that should not be a 10 dollar purchase, rather a bonus mode available in the regular NHL release. If EA plans on releasing a similar game in the future, it would be better suited to either bring back the under-appreciated NHL Rock the Rink from the original PlayStation or putting in some sort of ladder option or tournament mode similar to arcade sports titles from the 90s.
  15. 59
The over-the-top gameplay is a good fit, but it is a bit unimaginative. Shrinking goalies and massive body checks aren't exactly stretching the boundaries for an arcade game.
  16. This is basically a cheap knockoff of a Wii game. It could have easily been included in EA's NHL 09 game as the “pond hockey” mini-game. That way NHL 09 would have the casual fan and hardcore fan base covered.
  17. 50
3 on 3 NHL Arcade doesn't offer you enough to call itself a complete game. EA should add this game to a real NHL game, so you can spend your money on better titles.
  18. Think of it as the cheap seats at a game. If you know what you are getting into and have plenty of friends who wanna throw down with you online, then yes, the game does play a fun addictive game of arcade NHL action. If you are looking for a single player experience or will only play online sporadically, then the answer is an emphatic no.
  19. 50
NHL Arcade falls short in too many areas to be highly recommended. Unless you're a diehard hockey fanatic you can pass up this title. It's a shame too, we needed a good hockey arcade title for PSN/XBLA, but we haven't gotten it yet.
  20. 3 on 3 NHL Arcade is overpriced and annoying.

It is difficult to completely explain why myself and a few friends have wasted countless hours having tournaments with 3 on 3.. but this video that we made does the job. http://youtu.be/mLAE_T4r2l8 Full Review »

Number 1 i am hockey crazy. I love it. Second i got this for only 3 dollars using playstation plus so for any hockey lovers pick this up! I also own NHL 11. This game is great for me because it is a great side game to help with nhl 11. When i lose in NHL 11 i play this and feel instantly better. The hits are great the powerups are wonderful. Sometimes certain things like hitting goalies down and while there down can get me mad. I just think this game is so fun and exciting. The amount of goalies you can pick from isnt good but the players are. Thiis game isnt very long. Also a side note, if your a trophy horder youll love this game. 2 games in i got all but 2 trophies. Great game if you want trophies. I personally think the playthrough value is blasting through the roof. I find cool ways to score and it honestly doesnt get old. Ive played a game a day for probably a month now. In my opinion get the game whether or not you have playstation plus. Even if you dont you should still get it. The demo comes with NHL 11 as a side not Full Review »
