  1. Afterburner Climax is a great, and reasonably priced way to play the arcade game in the comfort of your own home, but it's a remarkably simple game that will leave some people wanting a lot more.
  2. Ask yourself if you totally likes retro gaming and playing games over and over until you really master everything in it. If you don't, you'll probably end up playing After Burner Climax 2-3 times and get bored. But if you do, look no further. After Burner Climax is absolutely the game for you with insane speed and action, old school style.

This game isn’t a game for the big audience; most of the players wouldn’t like the old gameplay. But if you are a die-hard or retro fan, then After Burner is a nice arcade game. Once again, the game isn’t for everyone, but for the right people it will deliver serious fun.
  4. The sleek, superficial action of After Burner Climax is thrilling in short bursts but not deep enough to last.
  5. If you're an old fan of the series, Climax is a good way to bring the nostalgia up-to-date, but for those used to getting more out of current-gen titles than an arcade sense of speed, it may not be worth the asking price.

After Burner Climax is just like a rollercoaster: after a few rides you've gotten your thrill and then you want to try another kind of ride.

It's like Mila Kunis on a bobsleigh - sexy, fast and hard to take your eyes off. [July 2010, p.118]

After Burner is pretty simple kind of game, though that’s not a bad thing at all. Like Outrun, this is an exercise in getting better and better by looking for paterns and refining your skill in twitch gameplay, but the arcade thrills wear off pretty fast due to repetitive gameplay. [July 2010 p76]
  9. With its fifteen levels lasting for 1 minute max, Climax have a really pathetic lifespan.

We'd liked to have seen more substance here to go with the new style. [June 2010, p.98]
  11. It's a simple game, from a simpler time in video game history. Maybe not the best there was, but definitely far from the worst. Would I spend $10 on it? No. Am I glad I got to play it to make sure? Yeah.

It did bring me back to the days of playing in the arcade but not worth the $10 I paid for it. Full Review »

Ok, before anyone says, "yeah right, a 10" understand that I gave it the highest of accolades because it's simply the best After Burner gameOk, before anyone says, "yeah right, a 10" understand that I gave it the highest of accolades because it's simply the best After Burner game ever made and it still retains a feeling of nostalgia especially considering you can choose to play the game with the original After Burner II music intact, note for note. Reminds me back when it cost a $1 to play the motorized deluxe edition that moved your entire body left, right, up, and down. So, as old school arcade reboot, this game gets 9 +1 for nostalgia. Worth the measly $10 spent on it. Full Review »
