Play and enjoy After Burner Climax for what it is: a thrill ride.
  2. After Burner Climax is, without a doubt, one of the most exciting new entries into the downloadable space. SEGA managed to preserve most of the intensity and all of the fun of the original game, and this latest iteration packs in a few extras that complete the package in a meaningful way.
  3. After Burner Climax is as close as it gets to getting the full experience short of stepping into a specialized arcade cabinet, and the EX mode gives legs to what would otherwise be a incredibly short play time.
  4. With its fifteen levels lasting for 1 minute max, Climax have a really pathetic lifespan.
  5. If you're an old fan of the series, Climax is a good way to bring the nostalgia up-to-date, but for those used to getting more out of current-gen titles than an arcade sense of speed, it may not be worth the asking price.
  6. Ask yourself if you totally likes retro gaming and playing games over and over until you really master everything in it. If you don't, you'll probably end up playing After Burner Climax 2-3 times and get bored. But if you do, look no further. After Burner Climax is absolutely the game for you with insane speed and action, old school style.
  7. Sublime. [July 2010, p.93]
  8. The sleek, superficial action of After Burner Climax is thrilling in short bursts but not deep enough to last.
  9. It's a simple game, from a simpler time in video game history. Maybe not the best there was, but definitely far from the worst. Would I spend $10 on it? No. Am I glad I got to play it to make sure? Yeah.
  10. Fast, spectacular and exciting, After Burner Climax looks like the perfect remake of the classic arcade game. The choice of three different planes but also the novelty of the Climax Mode increases the depth of the gameplay, but the game is far too short to last more than a few days.

After Burner's high-energy action, combined with next generation visuals and arcade pricing combines for a stellar package.
  12. A pure arcade shoot 'em up. It's pretty, fast, simple and short. [June 2010]

Ignore the linearity of the level design and embrace the PSN's most adrenaline-fuelled game since WipEout HD. [Issue#193, p.102]
  14. Despite the game’s length, you’ll no doubt find yourself lured back in time and time again, and if you’ve yet to play it, there’s really no excuse… do it now!
  15. After Burner is pretty simple kind of game, though that’s not a bad thing at all. Like Outrun, this is an exercise in getting better and better by looking for paterns and refining your skill in twitch gameplay, but the arcade thrills wear off pretty fast due to repetitive gameplay. [July 2010 p76]
  16. It's like Mila Kunis on a bobsleigh - sexy, fast and hard to take your eyes off. [July 2010, p.118]

This game isn’t a game for the big audience; most of the players wouldn’t like the old gameplay. But if you are a die-hard or retro fan, then After Burner is a nice arcade game. Once again, the game isn’t for everyone, but for the right people it will deliver serious fun.
  18. We'd liked to have seen more substance here to go with the new style. [June 2010, p.98]
  19. It’s bold and brash, and for as long as your interest holds, pretty good fun too.
  20. I’m a big fan of the pure arcade experience, and AfterBurner Climax offers exactly that. It’s concise to the point of being a little too short, but there’s lots to unlock, a nice smattering of Trophies and a couple of extra secret levels too.
  21. After Burner Climax is as good as arcade conversions come.
  22. After Burner Climax is pure arcade. Pure fun concentrated in a game in which time goes much faster.
  23. Afterburner Climax is a great, and reasonably priced way to play the arcade game in the comfort of your own home, but it's a remarkably simple game that will leave some people wanting a lot more.

After Burner Climax is just like a rollercoaster: after a few rides you've gotten your thrill and then you want to try another kind of ride.

I enjoyed playing the game but it was very basic and short. I had everything unlocked and finished within a day. It did bring me back to the days of playing in the arcade but not worth the $10 I paid for it. Full Review »

Ok, before anyone says, "yeah right, a 10" understand that I gave it the highest of accolades because it's simply the best After Burner game ever made and it still retains a feeling of nostalgia especially considering you can choose to play the game with the original After Burner II music intact, note for note. Reminds me back when it cost a $1 to play the motorized deluxe edition that moved your entire body left, right, up, and down. So, as old school arcade reboot, this game gets 9 +1 for nostalgia. Worth the measly $10 spent on it. Full Review »

If you were a fan of past After Burner games then this one if for you. Its fast past arcade style flying at its finest. Those looking for a serious flight sim, or something like Ace Combat may want to look elsewhere. Sure the game is short, but its highly replayable and just darn fun. Full Review »
