Overall I think Awesomenauts is a really solid, fun take on a genre that hasn't seen much face time on consoles. I really hope that despite the issues with the publisher Ronimo has a chance to support the game with future DLC, because it's a title that could easily be built off of for months to come. It's a game that definitely warrants the awesome part of its title, and even if you've never jumped into MOBA games before, Awesomenauts makes a pretty good place to start.

The perspective might be unsual, but in the 2D-arenas you'll witness intense online battles. Balancing is okay, controls are easy to pick up and the cartoon style is easy on the eyes.
  3. Don't expect complicated controls or a deep, engrossing storyline, but 2D arenas that look like they have been puked on by someone who ate too many Smarties, a boatload of upgradeable weapons and two teams of three mercenaries trying to destroy each other's base. [May 2012, p.88]

Mix up a 2D platformer and a MOBA game and you get Awesomenauts. It offers a great multiplayer experience on the cheap. But on the other hand it's really frustrating playing with a bloody noob in one team, because the match making is not the best.

Even losing a game of Awesomenauts is still fantastic fun. [Aug 2012, p.80]

Awesomenauts is surprisingly accessible, offering plenty of depth for those seeking it, the overall package being one that looks sublime and plays out with such a rare degree of fluidity.

A colourful, humorous cross between 2D platformers and MOBA games. In single player mode it can get boring pretty fast but is addictive in multiplayer. [July 2012, p.72]

The simplistic combat paired with strategic gameplay offers a fantastic experience for those gamers who are either new to strategy games or just wish to play a quick game with a few of their friends. Even though frustrating at times, Awesomenauts is a great addition to the PSN's strategic game line-up - as long as you keep the moronic NPCs off your team.
  9. It's a hell of a slog to win a match and characters are fairly underpowered at the start. It is tactically deep and responsive, but make sure you have mates to play with. [May 2012, p80]
  10. Though there is some environmental repetition, Awesomenauts is fun, addictive chaos at a decent price. [June 2012, p.82]
  11. The mechanics of Awesomenauts initially feel overly shallow – to its detriment. Combat mostly consists of repeatedly pressing one or two face buttons, and there's no real diversity in your objectives. But as you become more familiar, the game's tactical options reveal themselves, and honing your approach to capitalise upon your favourite character's skillset is an enjoyable process.

Awesomenauts loves how silly it is, but it takes its strategy seriously. This is a deeply tactical game, but it needs to be played a certain way.

Fun, addictive, and very enjoyable game. Endless combinations of the items available for the 6 awesomenauts. Figuring out which items go together and that will help you dominate on the battlefield is just part of the fun in Awesomenauts. The game is a 3 vs 3 online game that has 3 different maps for you to explore and to find secret was to elude your enemies and destroy their base. Each character is unique it its own way one can go from a healer to a very destructive giant robot. You will want to keep playing this game to unlock more items and to get all the way to the highest level of prestige to show that you are a true awesomenauts fan on the leaderboards. Later in the month of July, Ronimo games will be releasing a patch to help balance the game more and make the network connection is better. The Patch will also include 2 FREE DLC characters who are Coco Nebulon and Derple Zork. Coco uses speed and electricity to shock her opponents to death. From her lightning ball technique to her amazing lighting trail that will stun your opponents so you can do some serious damage. Derpl is a slug in a combat walker, I know it sounds weird but he's awesome, and he shoots out deadly explosive holographic cats and will trap your enemies in explosive grid traps and can transform into his even deadlier siege mode where his grip traps turn into a homing nuke and his cats turn into gatling fire. These 2 characters will make the game fresh and will make you want to play for hours on end. These are the reasons i recommend that you should buy this game right away and I guarantee this game will last quite some time. Also, help support Ronimo Games because they are giving us free dlc and the game is only worth $10, so please but Awesomenauts to support Ronimo. Full Review »

Very enjoyable and addictive game. Recommended for people who like Player vs. Player game-play! Characters are fun, creative and playful that you grow attached to them as you kick butt and take names. As you play, you level up in rank and unlock more customize-able abilities for your characters, giving you some joy when you unlock a new ability for your favorite character to choose from. The local co-op option is great and works smoothly, and it's how my friend and I play. When a person is kicked out of the game, a bot replaces them, so don't fret when you lose a teammate! I'd recommend this to everyone, especially those with a bit of a competitive spirit. Full Review »
