  • Summary: Combining naval strategy simulation with first-person shooter gameplay, players fend off the enemy beachside while ordering attacks against their marine counterparts. Seamlessly switching between battlefield and overview "Battle Command" map, the Hasbro game is brought to life as carriers, frigates, cruisers, destroyers, submarines and the legendary USS Missouri Battleship pummel the enemy in a race to strategic points that turn the tide of battle. The Battleship videogame is a next-gen marvel perfectly suited to turn nostalgic game junkies into battle-hardened admirals. Collapse

There are some neat ideas bubbling beneath Battleship's surface, but the overall poor presentation and frustrating lack of ideas mean this tie-in is best left at the bottom of the ocean.

If you get it for nothing, give it a half an hour. If you don't, don't. [Issue#219, p.81]
  3. There's an element of novelty in the first few minutes of play, but it doesn't last long. It isn't even the sketchy gameplay that sinks this Battleship – it's the abhorrently commercial objective apparent in every second of rushed gameplay. There's no artistic vision here, and the original idea at its core hasn't been given the time and love needed to build a coherent or enjoyable game.

This is another game on the long list of uninspired games based on film licenses.

  1. This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. When taking into consideration the uniqueness of the genre Battleship enters, one could say it's one in its own. Never in the history of Video games has a game been released that revolutionized board games. However putting this aside, as a FPS and action game your better off playing with a stick. It lacks the capacity to keep one interested never mind entertained. You are better off playing the table top version that isn't being destroyed by hollywood. Expand
  2. I heard this has a limited types of weapons, secondly it has no storyline at all, the story basically is about Aliens coming out of no where and attacking Earth, and then you have to go kill them. The graphics are ok, and the voice quality is ok too. I reccomend to not waste 30 or 40 dollars on this game. Expand
