Whether you're a nice guy or not and whether you tackle System Shock 2 beforehand or not (or (re)watch The Shining!), you owe it to yourself to own a copy of Bioshock.
Everyone will play it differently, and have a different experience. Some like myself will find it drenched in tension and atmosphere, having run into many a situation where the poop was scared out of me. Others, like a friend of mine, will claim that its intuitiveness, combative freedom, and creativity puts it above the spiritual predecessor "System Shock 2," and wonder at how convincing the whole affair can be.

An unparalleled achievement. No other game comes even remotely close to it in terms of raw emotional connection.
There is art here, despite what many would say isn't possible with games, from Roger Ebert to game designers like Hideo Kojima...BioShock stands as a monolithic example of the convergence of entertaining gameplay and an irresistibly sinister, engrossing storyline that encompasses a host of multifaceted characters. This is an essential gaming experience.
The atmosphere is second to none, the action frantic and fun, and the ease of access means you can play the game however you want without being punished for it.
While BioShock has an intriguing back story, the game’s episodic, mission-based structure lacks the propulsive momentum of games like "Half-Life" or "Max Payne." The story is better than that of many action games, but BioShock’s gameplay and visuals are so utterly brilliant that it is a shame it fails to reach the same level of greatness in its storytelling.
If only the mechanics matched the atmosphere. If only Rapture was a less linear world to move through. If only BioShock was the wholly brilliant experience you know, from your moments within it, it could have been.[Oct 2007, p.88]
Absolutely phenomenal game. Its atmosphere is the best in the world in my opinion. The underwater rapture is such a wonderful world to explore and the story is just as good. The whole game is just unique entirely from anything I’ve seen before. The gameplay is incredibly solid with some slight clunkiness but still overall minimal problems there. Along with that it is absolutely terrifying to walk around and get immersed in it.

You know, I played my fair share of games in my time, but Bioshock is nowhere near a 9, let alone a 10/10.
Don't get me wrong, it's a good game, it has good art direction and the story is engaging enough, it's just that as a whole doesn't hold the candle of being hold as a classic by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't like the story at all. The game is just something that I can get bored of Fast too. I've seen my brother play it and after 10 minutes I just didn't want to see it anymore. When I got the chance to play I got off that same minute. Speaking of the story I just don't think it's as good as any other ordinary story. The gameplay is very moderate which is the only thing that is good to me in my eyes. But that's it for this game. I only recommend you get it if you like Decent gameplay or if you wanna Platinum games that you just don't care about And of you want to do a playthrough which might be entertaining if you make it fun in a way.

Over hyped, this game is not good. Vast ammo games are a buzz kill. I want to be able to make it through a level with enough ammo in my gun, and not have to beat someone with a wrench. Stupid idea, non modern old fashion games don't cut it for me. Yes if we look at the story it is clean and the graphics are nice, but that doesn't dismiss the fact that there is no appeal to this game. Nothing really attracted me to is and it has 0 replay value something that even people who like this can not deny.
