    Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 mixes elements from popular games without really understanding how the pieces must be assembled. The result is a tedious and sloppy game that most feels like something that the developer Mercury Team wanted to get over with. Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 lacks even the ambitious driven from its predecessor. It's not a bad game, but not worth playing.

    This part closes the Lords of Shadow saga pretty nicely. The gameplay and graphics are about the same as the original. Despite the modern setting the game pulls you into the story quite quickly.

    I enjoyed Lords of Shadow 2 far, far more than I ever expected to, and have no hesitation recommending it to anyone looking for dynamic third-person action, environmental exploration, or an intriguing new spin on the Castlevania mythos.

    While I appreciate that MercurySteam wanted to do something different with the Castlevania franchise, I feel like the entire team, from director through to writer, through to the level designer has failed to grasp what makes Dracula such a wonderful character. It's not because he's a incredible force of evil. Dracula isn't a random monster; he's something more primal than that, and in failing to represent that, the developers have failed to do the Dracula story justice.

    It seems like the high quality of the first Lords of Shadow was accidental, because the sequel looks like three different games unskillfully stitched together. The beginning is great, but then suddenly the pace is gone, making room for long, boring cut-scenes (telling an extremely stupid story) and annoying, unnecessary stealth elements. [03/2014, p.50]

    Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 got a resounding ‘meh’ out of me. While the game play mechanics were fun, they got boring over time and downright aggravating with the plethora of rage inducing boss battles.

    Playing as Dracula could have been handled so many different ways, and while I don't agree with everything that MercurySteam did with Lords of Shadow 2, the positive aspects overwhelm the negative. This is a worthy and fitting end to a fine trilogy.

    As Dracula from Lords of Shadow 2 said: evil will always prevail. His words are especially relevant so it seems: bad moments are littered throughout the game and spoils an otherwise great action adventure.

    Playing through Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 felt more like work than having fun. That has us seriously wondering who this game is meant for. The traditional Castlevania player might get a heart attack from the first enemy that jumps out at you with a laser gun. The Lords of Shadow fan will simply observe regression.

    The solid combat mechanics and quality voice acting are the only things that this game has going for it. Everything else feels either disjointed, shallow or out of place. Lords of Shadow 2, as a whole, feels as a mediocre product with some graphical hiccups. In the end, the sequel destroys the good memories we had from the first iteration.

    It seems somewhat disjointed in that it lacks focus; in short, it tries to be something it’s not far too often. The modern-day theme simply doesn’t work, the story is muddy and hardly involving, and the stealth segments were just a mistake.

    Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 is a step backward for both MercurySteam and Konami. The previous game was a nice reboot, but with this second chapter the developers have ruined a good gameplay with poor stealth segments, a boring set of modern stages and bad designed boss fights (Pan's brother!). The nice combat along with a good enhancing system are still enough to let the game reach a 70/100 score.

    Bloody, brutal – but quite cheap and too linear at times. For fans of the art of boss battles this is an entertaining experience. But outside the arenas Dracula can’t motivate like Metroid Prime, Darksiders or Batman, from which it takes quite a few elements.

    Lords of Shadow 2 shows it's best intentions, surpassing the first part, but neglects some points. Ups and downs in the story and graphical issues affect the experience, even when it offers good combat mechanics and a great soundtrack.

    Lords of Shadow 1 suffered from feeling like a God of War clone with poor platforming. Lords of Shadow 2, on the other hand, no longer feels like a clone. It just feels like a generic action game. It has a story you don’t care about, a mashy combat system, and generic enemies and locales. The only good thing about this game is its voice acting, but even Robert Carlyle can’t save this one.

    Outside of combat, it suffers from poor design decisions, dated visuals, and a disjointed story. Its biggest shortcoming, though, is that doesn't live up to the promise and potential set by its superior predecessor.

    A final episode of a saga that is the shadow of its former self. Unlike the Gabriel he was, Dracul, the Lord of Shadow, shows all his true power just in combat. Boring and simplified platform, stealth and exploration mechanics are left behind, like corpses drained of blood.
  37. Unevenly brilliant and infuriating, CLOS2 combines incredible, tight combat and some spectacular visual treats with ropey stealth and a clunky narrative. Thankfully, the good outweighs the bad.

    Without changing anything, Castlevania Lords of Shadow 2 offers an action packed game based on your ability to inflict a maximum of damage to your enemies. In spite of a very old graphics engine, the game offers a decent life with about 15 hours of play. With dynamic gameplay, the ip follows the likes of Devil May Cry and God of War for the fan's enjoyment. The only true drawback is a very poor script that loses the player in its turns before the grand finale where a very expected twist happens, destroying all hopes of a good story.

    Lords Of Shadow 2 waddles on for 20-odd hours and would’ve been twice the game if it was half the length, with the all the unwanted padding and repetition taken out. It’s such a shame because the first game, and MercurySteam, showed such promise. But this is a huge backwards step and we fear the undead charms of Castlevania may finally have been killed off once and for all.

    Lords of Shadow 2 falls short of the high bar set by its predecessor, with niggly control issues, a somewhat empty open world, and frustrating stealth sections sucking a bit of life out of the experience. Fortunately, fans of the original release will undoubtedly enjoy the exciting combat and stellar graphical design on offer here.

    A big budget project gone horribly wrong. The graphics and voice acting are top notch, but everything else is a complete wreck. Environments are boring and repetitive, combat is uninspired, platforming is a joke and the stealth elements are some of the worst ever conceived from a major publisher. It’s a dismal affair through and through and an absolute slog to finish.

    MercurySteam has taken out most of the problem sections inside the original Lords of Shadow’s design document, specifically the loose patch work of several different action genre ideas, and has given Lords of Shadow 2 a much tighter focus.

    The first Lords of Shadow was a sweet surprise. The follow-up is a hostage to a story it tells badly, and a prisoner within a dull urban maze that refuses to become a characterful exploratory playground. To live on but to be diminished - that's the fate of the vampire in Castlevania's lore. Sadly, it's a bit of an epitaph for this well-meaning but bloated game as a whole.

    Lords of Shadow 2 runs into a classic sequel problem. By trying to do more and to fix the few issues of the first game, MercurySteam actually does less and creates more problems. Despite this, they’ve still crafted a competent tale with solid core gameplay that should entertain longtime Castlevania fans, even if it’s not quite everything they’d hoped for.

It fills out its lengthy running time not with deeper explorations of the surgically precise combat, platforming, and cohesive world-building of its predecessor, but with multiple misguided, jarring new elements that all-too often fail to satisfy in their own right. Worse, they make for a diluted, deeply disjointed overall game experience.

    Lords Of Shadow 2 is clunky, ugly and deeply misguided. It’s a game that sees the lord of the damned as a vehicle for rat-powered linear stealth, and that takes a future-Gothic London setting and then sets the action in tower blocks and sewers.

    Lords of Shadow 2 should have been a much shorter game. Still, though the game's stealth sections and drab modern settings represent the worst elements of the three-part saga, the tail end of the game contains the best of every aspect that the series is currently known for.
