There's nothing quite like Champion Jockey on PS3, and Tecmo Koei is to be commended for an in-depth portrayal of the horse racing world: what could have been a cheap throwaway is instead a surprisingly lengthy pursuit. The Move controls are enjoyable without being essential and the career mode would have seemed out-dated five years ago, but if you want something original and don't mind a gamble you could find yourself backing a winner.
It's impossible to score as all that kept us playing was the burning desire to conquer the game's staggering difficulty. [Issue#210, p.96]
If you're a fan of horse racing or interested in getting into the sport, Champion Jockey is without doubt a must-have; it's technical, it's in-depth and you're guaranteed hours upon hours of replay value. However, if you happen to be a gamer looking for a quick burst of casual fun, Champion Jockey's myriad of intricacies and learning curve may be enough to hinder your enjoyment.
The game constantly makes you look a titanic fool, but matching the rhythm of the Move's rumble to your gestures for extra speed is oddly satisfying. [Nov 2011, p.109]
