  1. Both beautiful and chaotic - a bit like Cheryl Cole's bed hair. [Sept 2011, p.116]

The intricately detailed environments make for a world you actually want to save. And if that hippy crap doesn't cut it for you, know that mowing down hordes of tiny men in what is essentially an AT-ST from Star Wars is just as satisfying as it sounds.

It's not at all necessary to play with others in order to have fun with Gatling Gears, but you should do everything you can to bring a friend in on the fun, because if there's anything better than one crazy warmachine, it's two crazy warmachines. If your life is missing some boom, Gatling Gears is just what the doctor ordered. It looks fantastic and will put a smile on your lips. Solid dual stick shooter with eyebleeding detailed graphics.

Gears is an excellent shoot em up for PSN.

Though some stages drag on far longer than they should, the game is overall an enjoyable experience.

It's hard not to like Gatling Gears. The pains of a worn genre and derivative mechanics are eased by a bright, inviting aesthetic and supported by an impressive attention to detail. Vanguard seemed more interested in creating their particular take on twin-stick shooter rather than doing something crazy with an established formula, and I'm strangely okay with that.

Gatling Gears will cost you $9.99, but it is worth a play through. I don't think you'll find that it has much replay value, but maybe down the line you'll have a sudden urge to blow things up in your mech.

Gatling Gears is a fun shooter that reminds you how much of a blast destruction can be.

Gatling Gears approaches a perfect basic concept for an XBLA/PSN game. It's not too short, and it doesn't feel slapped together, but it doesn't come across as a scaled-down disc-based game, either. In a market that often favors games less like movies and more like 19th century Russian novels, with lengthy mission-based campaigns or a couple hundred hours of competitive multiplayer excitement, the simple pleasure of an arcade shooter experience is easily overlooked. Without providing anything in the way of surprises or revolutionary design, Gatling Gears serves as an excellent reminder of why arcade-style titles remain relevant, even when they demand gaming sessions longer than 10 minutes.

It eventually drives the concept into the ground. [Issue#207, p.98]

Gatling Gears isn't a terrible shooter, but it also lacks any ambition. As dual-stick shooters go, this is another lazy attempt at the genre. The boring weapons and mediocre level designs won't win this game any awards, but they also won't ruin an otherwise unspectacular action game!

Great fun for a simple shooter, upgrades & customizations gives it the extra edge.
It's fun to plow trough the enemy with your gatling gun,
