Germinator doesn’t do a lot new, but everything it does is done really well. It uses the basic framework of a Bust-A-Move game and tweaks it to craft the most addictive puzzle game I’ve played this generation.

Addictive and fun, Germinator is an enjoyable puzzle experience overall.
  3. A puzzle game whose gameplay is very reminiscent of that of Bust-A-Move, except that instead of shooting small pellets upwards, you have to shoot them downwards, trying to clear the screen of various germs. Pretty fun. [April 2013, p.88]

It feels as though Creat are trying to emulate the success of PopCap with Germinator, but they can’t quite get there. It’s simply not as addictive, fun or as well presented as any of PopCap’s titles, no matter how hard it tries. Still, there are a few good features and if you’re a fan of the bubble popping genre this provides a unique twist on the classic formula along with a bit of a challenge.

Despite solid gameplay mechanics, Germinator is let down tremendously by poor presentation and a tacky, annoying art style. It’s a game better suited to the burgeoning mobile market, making the asking price seem a little too steep for what you’re getting – especially since there’s no cross-buy option.
