With enhanced anti-aliased visuals running at 60 fps and 1080p, both games on the PlayStation 3 look about as fantastic as you would expect them to when making the transition from a 480x272 pixel portable screen.

Independently, Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta were standout efforts that helped make a name for Ready At Dawn. When you put them together in the Origins Collection, you get two amazing and upgraded adventures in one $40 package that no fan of action games should miss.

God of War: Origins Collection brings two of the best PSP games to a single Blu-ray disc for the PlayStation 3 in stunning HD graphics. This is a must buy for any fan of the God of War series.

God of War: Origins Collections is the best reason yet to embrace these HD collections many publishers are bringing to the PS3. Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta feel right at home here, and I'm really happy to be able to enjoy these again without a PSP.

The God of War: Origins Collection has recaptured that magic that I fell in love with nearly six years ago. This is an addition to your PS3 collection that any God of War fan can't be without.

It can look a little too dark in places and there's a strange halt or pause at particular points, but overall, this is a package that absolutely cannot be missed. If you never got a chance to play either title on the PSP, you have no choice; get it now.

In the end, the God of War Collection 2 features two exciting PSP games, Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta, two God of War PSS titles that have been successfully ported to the PS3 with improved graphics and gameplay.

God of War Collection Volume 2 is an absolute must for fans that never experienced the games on the PSP, and the HD reworking has been so successful that even those who did buy them – and have played them fairly recently – are unlikely to regret this latest purchase.

I thoroughly enjoyed playing through Ghost of Sparta for the second time and Chains of Olympus for the third time, in Full HD for a change. A must-have for all Kratos fans and for action games fans in general. [October, p.78]

PSP owners won't have a compelling reason to relive these games in HD unless they're hungry for more trophies, but all other God of War fans should jump at the chance to play these thoroughly enjoyable games on their PS3s.

Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. For those of us who aren't into portables it's always deflating to miss out on a part of a series. Thankfully we can now enjoy both of these games at their absolute best.

Two epic adventures, Chain of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta, with one of the greatest video game characters ever, Kratos, return for the first time on Blu-ray Disc. The games are a remastered port of the two PSP installments in the series with new high-definition resolutions, stereoscopic 3D and graphics locked in at 60 frames per second, DualShock 3 rumble features and Trophies.

God of War: Origins Collection is a great deal with a combined completion of 12-14 hours, and packed with plenty of extras. However, if you've played both games, there is no real reason to go back, unless you're a diehard completionist.

One of the best HD updates we've seen since the trend of updating past games for current machines kicked off.

The transition to console has been nothing short of impressive, with each game not only looking but playing better than its handheld counterpart. While each game suffers from the static camera issues, and don't do much in the way of innovation, the proven God of War formula shines through with its fluid combat, epic experience that is second to none, and outstanding adaptation of Ancient Greek mythology.

If you haven't played these titles before -- and even if you have -- recommending God of War Origins is easy.
  23. Sure, they are not quite up to the same level as God of War III, but make no mistake: Origins still kicked our ass all over ancient Greece, and we were smiling the entire time. [Oct 2011, p.83]

Kratos' PSP adventures are superbly ported to the PS3. It's a little short and those who've played both games on the handheld won't find anything new here, but other than that it's right up there with Kratos' previous PS3 adventures.

Thanks to the God of War Collection: Volume II all parts of the series are now playable on the PlayStation 3. Running at a native 720p and 60 Frames and upgraded with a nice 3D-Mode, both games are still top-action-games and should not be missed by anyone, who is into adult, story-driven action games.

If you were ever thinking you could have had enough of the series, these two games will rekindle your love for button mashing madness. We highly recommend it and look forward to seeing the Cosplay of "Two Girls and a Spartan" - thank you Ares!

To fans of the series, particularly those that haven't played the PSP games before, there's really no reason not to pick up this well packaged collection. Chains of Olympus provides an engaging story for its six hours, whilst Ghost of Sparta has some spectacular set pieces over its lengthier ten hours, with both having the solid combat and strong item utility that has made God of War so popular.

This second collection of ports is an ode to the growth of developer Ready at Dawn. Chains of Olympus feels like good practise, but Ghost of Sparta can stand tall next to the console God of War-games. Together they form a lovely, if not always consistent collection of adventures for Kratos to fight through.

Both of these games can function as satisfying substances for the thirsty for more God of War fans. However, while Chains of Olympus is legitimately a washed out God of War experience exclusively for PSP players, Ghost of Sparta could stand right next to the original trilogy and claim a place in the heart of the fans, as equal.

This is very much the God of War we all know and love, and it's great to finally witness both games on a screen worthy of the series.

With enhanced, but somewhat dated graphics, solid sound, and some great God of War gameplay, you really can't go wrong picking this one up. The cheaper price is even more of a reason too as $40.00 isn't that bad for all the gameplay action you'll get out of it

Not just a game for God of War lovers, or for those who didn't play the PSP original, but also one of the best action games in the PlayStation 3, in spite of its graphics, that have been well updated, but look dated in comparison with other games.

From the small screen to the big one (well, your television), God of War: Origins Collection won't disappoint. Though it's just yet another collection, it's hard to argue with two solid titles for $40.

If only all HD remakes looked like the God of War Collection. Two perfect stories await you for the price of one – what are you waiting for? [Oct 2011]
  38. 80
It might taste a little of God of War Light for anyone who's already played the proper PlayStation 2 and 3 games in the series, but it still has enough action and adventure that action fans shouldn't miss it, especially at this price.
  39. Both games include 3D for the first time in the franchise. [Nov 2011, p.116]

Where Chains of Olympus was good, albeit a bit by-the-numbers, Ghost of Sparta stands proudly; the leanest and meanest the series has to offer.

Those two God of War games are the best thing that happened to PlayStation Portable during its lifespan. At least that is the case when talking about western games - I presume that many lovers of japanese style won't feel the same way. But being a fan of good games and good slashers I wouldn't hesitate when thinking about buying this colelction. Well - maybe if you already have finished both games then I would wait for a lower price, but I wouldn't stay indifferent. God of War - Origins Collection is a great product.

A product that seems to be aimed at teenage boys, but a tight control and smart combat is too good to be missed.

Volume 2 isn't as impressive as the original HD pack due to not including the modern classic that is God of War 2, but these two PSP games still stand up well on the PS3. The HD remastering has been handled extremely well, and thanks to the improved controls these are the definitive versions of Kratos' smaller outings.
  44. Sep 20, 2011

As a HD re-imagining, God of War Collection: Volume 2 does exactly what it should. With excellent controls, trophies and a solid 10 hour action blast split over two games this compilation really excels. Chains of Olympus may be a little outdated, but Ghost of Sparta is well worth your while, especially if you haven't played the PSP versions previously.

God of War: Origins Collection is a bit disappointing because it has no extra content and no astonishing graphics. But what really matters: the gameplay is very badass We love it!

It's a great remaster of two wonderful Kratos' advetnures, yet sometimes you can feel the gameplay has been designen with a portable device in mind.

The remastering process made by Ready at Dawn is impeccable. We recommend this second Collection especially to Kratos' fans, but it has enough quality to appeal other players.

God of War: Origins Collection isn't a bad deal for die-hard God of War fans. While neither game is the best that God of War has to offer, they're still more of the same exciting, action-packed gameplay.

May not pave any new roads for other PSP ports to follow, but it does deliver on all the elements that God of War fans have come to expect. And in that, it's a mighty, furious success.

Even if you don't own a 3D TV, there's value in this high-definition makeover -- even for those who've already played both Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta. At the very least, the reasonably priced Origins pack should make the wait for God of War IV (of whatever the next God of War incarnation is) more bearable for fans of the series. Plus, now you can own all five God of War titles (not including the non-iOS cell phone game, Betrayal) on the PS3.

Take it on its merits, enjoy it for what it offers and make allowances for its humble origins and this second salvo in the God of War Collection is a worthwhile, if never quite spectacular, update to the Kratos canon.

Would it have made more sense to truly re-make each episode to have them on par with other PS3 productions? The question remains. That being said, the transition to HD and 3D and the addition of the dodge mechanic on the right analog stick will be enough for the fans, or those who didn't have the opportunity to play the PSP originals. If you're among those who actually did, you can ignore this release. Let's take note, as well, that the technical gap between Chains of Olympus and Ghost of Sparta is pretty obvious, this last one being by far the better port of the two.
