Not many innovations compared to last year's editions. Madden NFL 12 still remains a good simulation with most of what the sports' fans are looking for. With a better implementation of impacts with improved animations and prettier graphics, this version is an honest update of the license, without prompting '11 owners for a necessary purchase. Only beginners will appreciate the Gameflow feature, which improves the accessibility of the game.

It's probably the lack of competition for the Madden series that starts to make it look old and outdated. The core game still offers good fun, but besides new rosters, you can just as well stick with last year's edition.

Perhaps more than any other long-running series that has featured on the current generation of hardware, Madden NFL 12 has that classic end-of-console-era feel to it. The team have seemingly stopped trying to improve the game in any major way and are waiting for the next generation to take things to the next level.

There's a lot to like here, and I think the game could be great in a year or two, but the quality level simply varies too much. If you're a Franchise nut who's been aching for a broadcast look and better visuals, you're in luck this year. Those seeking a significantly improved on-the-field experience, well, hey... be thankful that you can watch the NFL on Sundays.

Madden NFL 12 is not the greatest football game ever made, but it's definitely not the worst. Fans of the Madden series are sure to enjoy themselves, but others should approach with caution.

Madden NFL is as gratifying and frustrating as ever.

The biggest problem for Madden at this stage in its existence, though, is that it seems to lack a clear direction or vision of what it should be. Instead, it's listing back and forth, rudderless, between attempts at being a serious simulation and trying to attract a more casual audience, and it's not doing great service to either.

The exclusivity deal EA has with the NFL has ruined football video games for nearly the past 10 years and it will remain this way until their is competition in the genre once more. EA is happy to rest on their laurels and rake in cash as they monopolize a very lucrative video game category. This laurel resting is evident in the amount of clipping and awkward player interactions that occur in the game. Interceptions will frustrate and baffle you as you watch the opponent reach through your receiver to make the interception. The blurred edges on all the players when the camera is zoomed out will make you feel like you are playing on a playstation 1. The "3D" grass that has been implemented will make you laugh at how pathetic it looks. Your 10th franchise game in a row where it is raining (glitch EA has decided to leave unfixed) will make you sigh deeply with your head in your hands. The inability of your quarterback to complete deep passes will annoy you. Ultimately, if you end up only wasting 60 bucks on this game you should consider yourself lucky, considering how much it might cost to replace a plasma TV that has had a fist go through it. Commentary sucks (calling players the wrong name). Game physics are terrible (passes caught on the hash register as incomplete). Constant audio pops that made me think my sound system was broken, but then I realized it was just crap Madden. Full Review »

With little improvements to game play and presentation Madden 12 is a big disappointment. It's easy to overlook the good things because there are so many few good things about this game. For example, multiplayer has been updated but single player seems to be neglected by EA. How many more years are they going to make a poor showing of Madden. Other problems are, too many glitches with commentary by Gus Johnson (not his fault). Sounds in the game are unclear and unfinished. And also the graphics haven't got a makeover in years. So folks this one is a no no, do not buy unless your a hardcore football fan like me and have little choice if you want to play football on the console. EA we are all waiting for a better Madden game. Full Review »
