Let's commend Iron Galaxy for selecting two dusty Capcom fighters -- Marvel vs. Capcom and Marvel Super Heroes -- and remodeling them in HD and online play in spite of not being in any form of high demand, but we're not complaining either. It's an excellent port that reintroduces to an era before the Marvel Cinematic Universe when Marvel and Capcom were constant collaborators in the arcades.

Pros? Excellent HD remodeling of the character sprites and stages, however, the additional arcade skin helps retain the retro aspect of the games; excellent online experience; nostalgic.

Cons: Dated appeal to anyone outside Capcom and Marvel's most devoted gamers; an underwhelming experience in comparison to more successful Capcom ports such as Marvel vs. Capcom 2 and Street Fighter III: Third Strike; for $15 (USD), there's not enough to justify the price tag.

Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel vs Capcom: Clash of Super Heroes hold up surprisingly well nowadays in comparison to the many dated fighters of its time, and despite its uneven price, it should offer some nostalgic candy to former players and maybe even some retro delight to new players.

  1. Still, this minimal-frills two-pack is definitely entertaining while it lasts. [Holiday 2012, p.76]
  2. With Marvel vs. Capcom: Origins you get two games for the price of one: Marvel Super Heroes and Marvel vs. Capcom: Clash of the Super Heroes. Both great arcade classics with a great cast and now with some great online features. [November 2012, p.92]
  3. Marvel vs Capcom: Origins is a bland and unexciting update of a couple of classics that have long been superseded. [December 2012, p82]
