  1. Experimenting with Black Hole Bombs and other special weapons is great fun in Mega Man 9, a welcome departure from recent entries in the series, where an enhanced Mega Buster made other weaponry less relevant.
  2. Buy it, finish it, love it, because if this takes off we’re going to see a renaissance of new-old games. And if that happens, a whole new batch of gamers will grow up learning why rock-solid gameplay, not tera-flipping flop-bib shaders, make games truly exceptional.
  3. It's damn near impossible, but you'll feel a great sense of accomplishment if you manage to beat the final boss. The replay value is high, thanks to additional challenge and time attack stages, along with promising downloadable content.
  4. If you liked the old Mega Man games then you probably already bought this, but if not do it immediately, and if you have never played one before, it’s a good time to start.
  5. I can't imagine any casual gamers getting much out of Mega Man 9. It requires and tests a skill set that you only tend to have these days if you've been playing games for the last twenty years.
  6. It's an amazing feeling to be able to play MegaMan again. The story, the music and the courses all live up to the myth, but why does it have to be so hard?
  7. Mega Man 9 is an extraordinary accomplishment through and through and has come at the right time.

Mega Man 9 is exactly what hardcore gamers were hoping it would be, as Capcom has come out of the gate with a game that's full of nostalgia and fan-service, but also one that truly does rival the best in the franchise's 8-bit roots.
  9. The original blue bomber returns in an all new adventure that will bring you back to the good old days of incredibly hard but simple games.

Mega Man 9 is more than just an experiment in aesthetics or retro fan service - it's the real deal. Tough as nails, rewarding, and endlessly playable. Essential for anyone with the requisite skill or determination.
  11. The game encapsulates everything that made the franchise great in the late 80s and early 90s and recycles it for the current generation. Mega Man 9 is a worthy addition to any gamer's digital library.

MM9 is an unapologetic nod to one of gaming's greatest eras. It might've been made especially for nostalgia-crazed dorks like me, but it's something that any challenge-seeking gamer can dig.
  13. It is as true as possible to the franchise's humble beginnings, which is a good and bad thing. In my opinion, it's a good thing because I love a game that can put me through the wringer and back-but still be fair about it.
  14. Bringing the Blue Bomber out of his 12 year retirement proves to be a great move. This game will have old school gamers remembering the "good ol’ days". A definite must-have for 2D platformer fans, who are up for a challenge.
  15. This is a full-sized 8-bit title, complete with a time trial mode. Playing through the story once can take between six to eight hours, but you could easily spend twice this amount of time with the game and still be having fun.
  16. The vibrant, retro look reinforces the game's charm even further.
  17. The pixel-like graphics and outdated gameplay lets you think that you are dealing with a very old videogame. But you couldn't be more wrong. Mega Man 9 is not a fresh and new adventure in the Mega Man franchise. Nevertheless, Mega Man 9 is already a classic that shows that a 2D game can still pack a lot of punch.
  18. Mega Man 9 is a great game with a huge amount of old-school appeal. Unfortunately, it is unlikely to resonate with everyone, primarily due to its excruciating difficulty.
  19. Speaking of unlockables, I would also like to have being given the chance of getting to mention the likes Time Attack, which is supported by online leaderboards, and Endless Attack, which is probably the most hard-hitting survival mode ever included in a game in the history of time, tasking players with getting by as many screen as possible before unmercifully dying.

Its gameplay is undeniably pure. [Issue#172, p.92]

Un thankyou for creating a game, on purpose, that I couldn't progress. You should've been MM10 and give me a mode that at least let's me play the game., That game get's a 9. Full Review »

It was great that mega man returned old school but that doesn't give it an excuse that the story had to be so dull and repetitive. The musicIt was great that mega man returned old school but that doesn't give it an excuse that the story had to be so dull and repetitive. The music and the stages were great but there was limited game options. It wasted 4 hours of my life and I haven't even finished it yet. I would've gave it 7 if it came with the warning: THIS GAME CAN BE EXTREMELY BORING! YOU CAN ONLY PLAY THIS GAME IF YOU DO NOT HAVE A LIFE! Full Review »
