The Metal Gear myth has never before appeared so agile, fresh and youthful, but more than the setting its Platinum's virtuoso coders that shine throughout, the object slicing a marvel of high-speed 3D manipulation. A technical masterpiece, Rising offers a funfair ride approximation of Konami's brooding series, but one with more than enough capacity for the Bayonetta veteran to express their dexterous expertise.

Platinum Games has done something incredibly rare: honoring a beloved series while successfully broadening its reach into a whole new genre.

An exhilarating experience that beats home just what kind of masters Platinum Games are at what they do. One of the best action games in years, and one that will stay with you for a very long time.

A thrilling and engaging experience. The swordplay is fun, and it's really fascinating to see the different spots where either Kojima's or Platinum's signature styles shine through. It also has a wild final confrontation that shows elements of both.

It's such a shame that the singleplayer takes just a few hours to complete. Because it's a fantastic game to play, probably the best hack and slash title in a science fiction setting. Raiden shows us how cool he is.

Its shortness will dissuade many, but cut deeper and an innovative parry system impresses. [Apr 2013, p.70]

For a series known for having some of the most memorable villains and boss fights in video game history, Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance has some of the most pathetic, bland villains I’ve seen. I didn’t fear them for being ferocious, I feared them because I knew how poorly designed each fight was and how infuriating the next one would be.

The story begins with Raiden being a bodyguard for the Prime Minister of South Africa, the game shows what happened to Raiden after Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots. Revengeance introduces new mechanics such as the Zandastu mechanic, which can be used by Raiden to replenish his health, which is used by the Blade-mode meter, in which you cut an enemy in an area, and in addition to refill your Blade-mode meter. As for the game play, imagine Devil May Cry or the Dynasty Warriors, but without the over top action and flare, but keeping the deep combat system, and combos. Finally, there is the music and it is amazing. From the Metal-style Stains of Time, to the epic Orchestral-Rock piece It Has To Be This Way, the music is hit very well. Overall, it has a nice length of about 9 hours, which is good for a game that can be bought for about $10, so it deserves he highest possible rating. Expand

The Art style as intriguing as ever, boasting some of the most Uniquely designed enemies you'll encounter, visually and in function. Visuals are especially impressive in regards to handling the frame rate well despite the wild amount of accelerated action that takes place. As expected, the Action level is far higher than the Snake installments; even past Raiden segments are idle in comparison. Controls are solid, what you can expect from a Team Ninja action title. (Compare to DMC). This combat flow is definitely the fastest thus far. Love the Ninja-Run feature, as it allows Raiden to easily navigate all terrain and any geometrical obstacles, adding a necessary smoothness to his mobility. Weapons are fun to use and learning the combos is worth it. Upgrades are meaningful. Enemies are fierce and satisfyingly competitive. Hard Mode) The boss battles are the game's best offerings, providing rewarding challenge and visual spectacles that won't come close to disappointing you. The camera may only be an issue for the unsavvy.

The story is as cheesy as every other Metal Gear. Still, fun and masterfully written. Codec conversations provide interesting dialogues. Neglecting those would mean missing some of the best writing in the game. Great game overall for fans of the genre and should satisfy most Metal Gear enthusiast. 9/10

a top-tier series. The thunderstorm combat in Rising is fast, deep, and strategic. Incredibly fun!

Unlike the MGS franchise where you feel like playing over and over this one is a one time playthrough type of deal unless you're a really dedicated fan. As much as I still enjoy hating on Raiden, I must say he really did redeem himself this time which is the best part of the entire game. Expand

which seemed good at the beginning, but, turned out to be repetitive and even extremely boring at the end.

good example of a game that promised a lot, delivered little and bored people half way to death... AVOID.
