  • Summary: MLB 08 The Show promises to provide fans with the most realistic baseball experience to date with innovations such as a more immersive Road to The Show mode, enabling gamers to play both offense and defense from the created player’s perspective. Providing players with some additional performrmance incentives, the MLB franchise introduces the new Progressive Batting Performance feature, which both rewards players for superior performance and penalize them for hitting slumps. Specific to each individual batter, players are rewarded with slight contact bonuses, or punished with slight decreases in contact, based on how that batter that performs beyond his "natural ability" while under user control. Adding to the online feature set, which includes customizable Online League Play with up to 30 teams, scrolling MLB Score Ticker and more, MLB 08 The Show introduces SCOUT (SportsConnect Online User Tracking), which allows gamers to set and store their game preferences on the MLB server, and enables the system to look for a Quick Match with opponents that fits similar competitive criteria. 1. The players are all modeled with such care and effort that it will make your jaw drop. The clothes will ripple when the pitcher raises his leg mid-throw, and dirt will cake on the uniforms of the players who have made a few diving saves in the infield.
  2. With a dearth of features and tweaks that make this experience the best out there, gamers will have plenty to do before and after the first pitch of the season.
  3. MLB 08: The Show does very little new, but most everything it does is done very, very well.

For this season, consider it the way you would a September game with your team already eliminated from the chase: If you're the type that wants to check out the young prospects called up, you'll probably be right at home. If you've already been watching preseason football for a few weeks and are enjoying the first NFL games, it might not be your ticket.

I was in a cigar shop recently and noticed they were watching a baseball game in hi-def. It was my fiancee who noticed it was a video game. The picture was THAT good even in hi-def. I have never bought a sports game before, but I plan to now. Expand

First off...I really don't like baseball. Secondly, I am a relative noob when it comes to simulation games. But when I got my first homerun and heard the crack of that bat...I was there. The Show retains a comfortable, arcade esque feel for those who want that, yet also has so many customizable options that any player can find thier perfect mix. Graphics are nice, although when running at 1080 or 720 happen to hit some weak framerates. However, in sports games the controls and gameplay mechanics are what sells, and MLB 08 sells it bigtime. Easily the best baseball game on the market right now as 2K8 was dissappointing and EA is rebuilding thier franchise. A good game that will keep any fan or newcomer swinging for the fences. Expand

Kind of disappointed. In single player (non-online) mode the game looks great. Only exception really is the players moonwalking to get under fly balls but that can be overlooked. Playing against the computer in a baseball game is kind of a crapshoot though as your playing against a line of code and not an actual human so pitching and such are somewhat blind luck. So I play online and the game kind of falls apart. Check swings are a mystery as you'll think you've rung someone up on a pitch only to see their basically full swing be called a check swing. Then also never throw a change-up.. for some reason this is a pitch that, with the slight lag you have online, gets hit consistently and most of the time for a HR. There are quite a few other problems I've encountered but I'll leave it up to you to find them.... otherwise it's a decent game. Collapse
