In comparison with the 360, the PS3 has a lot more exclusives, still Sony yet hasn't exploited their use. For the three competitors the PS3 it's the most powerful in terms of advanced technology . The Playstation Network is short on content but with the fact that is free , many will prefer PS3 over 360 online it have Playstation Home ( a social, avatar game or bonus etc), Playstation Store ( were you obviously buy whatever it pleases you), my favorite content is the addition to buy Playstation 1 classics with is incredible etc. The PS3 package may be varied , some with games and other stuff , and others , well,... empty just the console and controller. I remember very vividly in 2000 I got a PlayStation 2 for Christmas. I spent my whole childhood on that console, and I never needed another. Sure I was envious of my friends with an Xbox, only because of Halo, but the games out on the PS2 were by far the best, and most addicting. Sony had the market, and my heart, in a monopoly with the PS2. When the PlayStation 3 was announced, I eagerly awaited for its release. I eagerly awaited until I found the starting price of $699. There was no way that I could afford that price, and not many people could. I was extremely disappointed when I found out the price of the PS3, especially since that was the only console I wanted. Christmas that year came and went, and I didn't get a PS3. I remember being angered at Sony for their ridiculous price. Christmas the next year came (2007) and I was one of the few who was able to get my hands on a Wii. I was planning on giving it to my sister for Christmas, but I also knew that this Wii would be the only 7th Generation console I would ever have, and that saddened me immensely. Christmas that year came, and my sister opened up her Wii and was excited to get one. She then handed me a present and smiled. I had already opened up all of my presents so I was puzzled by this. I went ahead an opened it, and to my amazement it was an Xbox 360. The idea of getting an Xbox 360 hadn't really crossed my mind. But I figured since all of my friends at the time had one, I would give it a try. So I fired it up, popped in my copy of Halo 3, and started playing. Immediately I knew that the Xbox 360 was my was not only going to be better than the PS3, I also knew that I had made the right choice keeping it. I play my Xbox 360 for 3 years until I finally got a PS3. When I finally got one, I was extremely disappointed to learn that all the franchises I had enjoyed and loved on the PS2 and PS1 were gone. No Crash Bandicoot, No Sly Cooper, No Jak, nothing. All of my childhood memories had been lost in this overpriced heap of garbage that Sony calls a game console. the instant I started my PS3 up for the first time, I had to wait 2 hours for it to finally download all of the ultimately useless bloatware updates that Sony forces you to install, only to be disappointed with rather mediocre graphics, and game play. The only 2 games I have actually enjoyed over the course of the 3 years I have had my PS3 are Uncharted 2, and God Of War III. Both of which have its roots in the PS2. The one thing I will give credit to the PS3 is the fact that it rarely crashes because of hardware failures. But that is NOT the same as software updates. With games that crash, hideous controls, updates that brick consoles, a marathon of mediocre games, useless updates, updates that remove features, lack of PSN security, and a **** ton of other things. Sony completely screwed up with the PS3. They had my heart in a headlock with the PS2, but completely lost me with $699 price. I may have liked the PS3 if I had gotten it when it first came out. But to be honest, I'm glad a got an Xbox 360 instead. Sure the PS3 may have a few more exclusives, but all the exclusives on the PS3 are just mediocre clones of Xbox 360 games. Unfortunately all the PS3 does anymore is sit on my console shelf collecting dust. The only time I use it anymore is on the rare occasion I decide to watch a Blu-Ray movie. Sony I enjoyed the PS1, and the PS2 very, very much. But you killed your brand with the PS3. Expand

The playstation 3 got off to a bad start early on due to the fact that programming games for ps3 was much harder than for xbox360. This meant that a lot of multiplatform games performed far worse than on xbox. In recent years the potentiall of the ps3 has reallybeen unleashed and multiplatform games are lokking just as good as on xbox. However exclusive games have truly been maxed out and are absolutely incredible. Expand

PS3 console was a huge let down. First of all, it is much heavier than it looks. It's graphics are also very poor compared to the Xbox 360 and PC. I would like to see the PS3 improved.

In the end, a whole bunch of Microsoft fanboys will say no to this because they are not open to trying out other consoles. Despite the expensive launch price, its worth it now to go buy one at the current price With a bunch of great games across many franchises including Uncharted. It also has many fantastic 3rd party titles, also available on X360 including Red Dead Redemption, GTA4, and Call of Duty games that i'm not into much but sometimes enjoy, Another recent pick that i've enjoyed is Twisted Metal 2012, a game that is the king of car combat. In the end, think about it. At least the PS3 doesn't have the red ring of death. You guys need to learn something: Don't be a fanboy. Try out all the consoles before you begin to hate the others. Every console in existence has a weakness but in the long run, the PS3, Xbox 360, and Wii are the best consoles ever made. Expand

well Sony had a ruff start with this thing . 20gb pulled in the first 2 months , it was way over priced... $600 for a gaming console!!! sure the blue ray player is nice but 99% of the people buyin a PS3 want it for games . the xbox 360 won the first 3 years in my book with better games and online . now after that is a differnt story because after 3 years my xbox 360 and all my friends had to be replaced any where from 4-16 damn times . the PS3 has started building a amazing game library thats expansive and is focused more on the hardcore gamer . where MS in the last 2 years is all about Kinect and being the next WII and gives hardcore gamers the midle finger theese days . the online set up although not as nice as XBL does its job and although i wish it had party chatt it does have most of its games on dedicated servers unlike XBL and doesnt cost $60 which in the end i dont think you get jack **** for. also the PS3 is much more durrable ive had 1 break on me in over 4 years and went through 10 xbox 360's in the last 6 years.xbox may have been the bad ass for awhile in hardcore gaming but its all PS3 theese days. You can not say much, the PS3 is the best console on the market with the best exclusive and still a great innovation space after so long.
I am a proud owner of that system, and despite lower sales this is what I recommend in relation to the xBox 360.

I am sitting here, reading the reviews below. To say that "games are retarded except uncharted and that about it" means that you are saying that everything on the PS3 is retarded, meaning that games on the X360 are reatarded, because most of them are multiplatform. And if you want to insult the games, insult the people that made the games, not the console that the games are on. That is like blaming a library for having bad books, or a museum for having bad artefacts. Other people have made these games (which are multiplatform, so Xbox fanboy, you are also chuffed), so don't go bashing the console for having them on it. I have noticed in a lot of the reviews on games and other consoles that some people don't even talk about the game or console, but just say that it is bad and the people who think it is good are retarded. But you people who have said that the PS3 is bad, take a look around. It has already won the console war. Millions of people think it is good, and more than half of today's gamers (even ones on the X360, PC and Wii) think it is brilliant, and I know that the next negative review will say that over half of the gamers in the world are retarded. The PS Store is responsive and is set out well, while the online is responsive and feels good. People will say that it copied the X360, and in some ways it did, with Trophies and such, but everything has been done before and without trophies you have no real insentive to complete a game 100%, and once you finished it your goals have been fufilled and you really have nothing else to do with it, and people who own a Wii and a PS3 or X360 know this full well. I haven't touched my Wii for about six months because it doesn't have trophy support (the next reviewer will also say I am a trophy whore). But the PS3 isn't absolutely briliant. The synchronisation when you are checking trophies takes forever, and the games install onto the harddrive for no apparent reason. The patches take light years to install on a good day, and the internet connection will jump out occasionally, but that is probably because of the signal in my area. But there is more data space on the PS3's harddrive on average, and it has better exclusive games (Infamous, God of War and Yakuza as opposed to Halo and Gears of War) and there will be more and more insults for those two brackets, so lay off, you lunatic Gears and Halo fanatics. The Playstation is more complete and has better hardware, as long as you fork out for a console with more data room. The one main disappointment is the fact that Sony took away the backwards compatibility of the console, so we have to fork out on the PS Store or buy a Playstation 2 to play those timeless classics. So, let the flurry of fury against this review commence, but please don't insult me for liking the console, and please don't condemn it because of things like the games on it. Just know that the PS3 is superior, has a more sophisticated following and better, more likeable and more sophisticated games. Or buy an X360, or even a Wii, if that's what floats your boat. Expand

Playstation 3 is superior to the xbox 360 in almost every way, but there isn't actually much that seperates them. The xbox has better online, but this may be because of the fact that it costs money. Playstation 3 has free online which certainly is a good thing, but you'll also see more hacking and downloading is a little slower. Other than that it has better exclusives, better components and it also works as a blu-ray player, so you definitely get more for the money, even though a blu-ray player does not cost a lot. Expand

Gotta love how the stupid Xbox 360 fanboys are raging/trolling on this system. At least the PlayStation 3 can make their own games instead of relying entirely on third-party games. The PS3 is also more powerful, which means better graphics. Another thing to note, is that the PSN's community isn't so horrible and rude and stupid like Xbox Live's community. A final note: the PS3 is more sleek-looking. Expand

Another fantastic system currently on the market, and while it may cost more than the Xbox 360 at the store it will actually end up costing you less in the long run because you don't have to pay for multiplayer and you don't have to keep feeding the wireless controller batteries because they give you a handy cord that actually connect to the system to recharge it and play while you do, the system also has a fantastic selection of games exclusive or not, it has some issues with navigation of the main menu (takes a little getting used to) and some issues with downloading stuff from the marketplace, but in the end these issues don't hold it back from being a fantastic video game console, and it's matching the 360 blow for blow, I highly recommend. Playstation 3 is a really good console and its really well made with alot of exclusives the controllers dont randomally turn off like xbox and it has a built in blue ray player and web browser online is also free but there is a catch online passes are used to pay for psn and so is playstation plus it gives you free access or makes things cheaper playstation 3 is great but it has certain problems the online isnt as good in matchmaking terms as xbox and you cant play music and games at the same time with a certain exception of games. its easier to communicate with the people xbox also because parties are only on certain games and are supported by the system in its self but all in all playstation is made alot better then xbox but certain online features that xbox has keeps this from being perfect but with all the exclusives and options you wont be dissapointed Collapse

Those negative reviews are from the XBOX 360 fanboys. Really, PS3 is fantastic, yet not better than PS2. It haves a lot of downloadable stuff, great graphics (while sometimes the graphics in PS3 doesn't really reach the XBOX level, still games are playable with that PS3's graphics). And PS3 exclusives are fantastic. Like. MGS 4 is fantastic, Uncharted 3 is fantastic. Buy this console, It's great! 95 out of 100 Expand

I've been a follower of the Sony console since ps1, and to me their best achievement was the ps2: it showed how games could improve, both in graphics and in gaming experience, creating some of the best games ever made. And they are too many to mention.. However, when ps3 came, I had no interests on buying it.The games at launch were all boring and really seemed like ps2 games with improved graphics. In the end, I took an Xbox 360, because it had at least Oblivion (then they released it on the ps3, with the expansions and dlc....), and also more games that were just more fun to play at first. I got my ps3 3 years after release, when it had a huge cost reduction, aaaand...I'm not really regreting the purchase, especially because there were interesting games and right now I own more games on the ps3 than the xbox (mainly because I can connect with it, while I'm not going to waste money on the xbox live. I will use my pc for them shooters!). But...the ps3 is still a dull console in comparison to the ps2. While I love a lot of the games on it (mostly Jrpgs such as Ar Tonelico Qoga and Tales of Graces F), the games on the ps3 still look like ps2 games with better graphics....without mentioning the HUGE AMOUNT OF BORING AND UNINSPIRED FIRST PERSON SHOOTERS. I seriously can't look at any shelf in any game store without looking at least one shooter game, and they just look all boring and uninspired from the cover. What happened to the game variety? Even my favorite kind of games, the JRPGs, are all downgraded to dungeon-crawler games, without any kind of world exploration, as if they weren't able to create worlds or any kind of explorable world outside the cities (and on ps2, we had Dragon Quest VIII). And, if I have to be brutal, the nintendo DS was able to create an explorable (but small) world with Dragon Quest IX. This is not a good thing to see. Another small issue also, are the controllers. Now, the biggest problems are 2: the battery recharge wire, which is so small that I can hardly play with it, making me stop and wait at least 20 minutes, and the cost of it: over 60 euros just for a controller!? I know that it's wireless and has the vibration feature (which was removed at first but was added back again. Personally, I always remove it from the games), but then If I want to play with someone, I have to ask him to bring his controller. Or buy a low cost one. There are also other flaws but, honestly, the best thing of the console is that it's completely region free. YES!!! We can finally play games from other countries, and that was the biggest issue of the ps2 (as an European, I never managed to play some ps2 gems such as Xenosaga, Grandia 3, Radiata Stories, or any of the earliest "Tales of" games). This feature alone is a great addition, but all in all the console is good, because it has NOW a good variety of games, and I hardly have any complains after 3 years. Yes there's also the issue of games requiring an installation on the console HDD (I wasted over 100 gb of memory just for the installation of barely 20 games, while on the xbox 360 I used only 11 gb). In conclusion, it's a good console, but it's NEVER gonna live as a descendent of the ps2, because the games released on it aren't exactly new and don't look appealing, especially if you compare a ps2 shooters (Timesplitters 2 anyone?). Graphics never make a game, but apparently this generation (and this console) constantly focuses on graphics, and usually ignores the most important game factors: the longevity and gameplay. Some games have proved to be able to do both (uuuhh....Skyrim?), but many would just fail and focus on pretty graphics (Final fantasy XIII), or fail at everything (Call of Duty series...if you don't count the online). This is all personal opinion here, but some facts are inevitable, and as an hardcore fan of the ps2, who loved it and literally lived most of his teenage life with it, I cannot really say I'm happy with these results, especially since the ps4, apparently, isn't very far from coming out (WiiU is here already), and the ps3 has just began to show strong titles! I suggest to look first for the games on it and look for the best offer (you'll need a strong HDD, or you're done for). If you never had a ps2, then you might enjoy the games since you'll ignore the quality downgrade. But if you're like me, then you'll just wait patiently a lot of time, just for the few games that picked your interest. Oh, and you'll be able to find great ps2 games at cheap prices too! All in all, not a bad console, but I think everyone expected a huge leap from the ps2, but the expectations weren't all fulfilled as we hoped for... PS: Ah right, the internet and other features... well my pc can do it better, faster, and if I have to play my shooters online, I play them with a mouse (AKA: the online is actually very good, but online gaming is better on the pc, unless you cannot run the games on it. And you need an headset on the ps3, for chating). Expand

If people decide to hit on this review it is because they are the rich kids that have tons of money, so they can afford Xbox live, its games and all the extras. What's the point of paying money for internet connection anyways, when you can get it free? Yes, the original price of the system was extremely lofty, at nearly seven hundred dollars, but so what, the price is lower now. There is a number of unique games on this system, unlike xbox with only 2, there is a bunch on the PS3, and most of them are "family friendly." I know the updates are a pain in the butt, but this doesn't completely ruin the system. Something about this 'Yellow Light' I heard about, well, I've heard this thing called the 'red ring of death' much more frequently. Anything people say that the PS3 is inferior to the Xbox, there is usually a thing that the Xbox suffers from as well, so stop trying to pick on PS3, or I'll say some really ironic things about the Xbox. Overall, 8.5/10, some games are not quite as good/tough as their predecessors on the PS2. Expand
