  1. In spite of these shortcomings, I did have some fun with the game. It would have been a lot more fun, though, if there was more variety to the missions and there wasn’t so much frustration tied to them.
  2. From its old school design to its gameplay struggles, Prototype resembles a superhero who leapt off a building only to realize he doesn’t possess the power to fly. I hate to say it, but picture a frustrating Spider-Man game, and you have a good idea of what this experience has to offer.
  3. There's plenty to do, with the core story missions and plenty of optional side activities making Prototype a game that you won't clock in a few sessions, and the upgrades and abilities are plentiful, but it just doesn't quite come together well enough to create a really great game.
  4. Although it has everything you'd want from an intense, action-fuelled open-world title, the overall feeling with Prototype is that it tries a little too hard.
  5. Keep in mind that Prototype is foremost a hack-&-slash-game and not, as some might expect, a free-roamer. Making it a game with not a lot of variation, even though you can unleash a lot of different attacks. The action is fast and chaotic, but may get frustrating because of the overload of enemies and high difficulty setting. Only a must-buy if you're looking violent action and a fast paced hack-&-slash game.
  6. Thanks to excessive fog and pop up, we struggled locating collectibles. As for the upgrade system, there's so much to level up/moves to acquire that we quickly became overwhelmed and abandoned it. In addition, missions eventually grow repetitive, the story failed to hold our interests and cheap computer opponents killed us more times than we care to admit.
  7. Unfortunately they’ve been over ambitious and so in taking in as much as they can, they’ve lost out on what really matters - detail, interesting missions and polish. You feel like you’ve seen everything within the first 4 hours and so finishing the games begins to feel like a chore.
  8. The shape shifting abilities of the games protagonist are fun to experiment with but the story campaign has an all too familiar feel to it.
  9. I am sure there are people out there that think [Prototype] is one of the best games of the year, but to me it just is not polished enough to deserve that much praise.

On a theoretical level it achieves a significant design accomplishment in pulling everything together into a cohesive package. As the person holding the controller, though, it stumbles too often on its inability to turn its potential into a consistently fun game.

I just can't get over how cheap a lot of the game feels. Whether it's the dated looks, its frustratingly difficult latter portion, or its awkward storytelling, Prototype often feels like a budget title that unfortunately doesn't have a budget price.
  12. Despite all of its time in development, Prototype feels hollow and uninspired. There are a number of great concepts here, such as the shapeshifting and being able to run vertically, but everything else falls apart when you realize how boring many of the missions are, how boring the world is, how boring the game looks, and...well, how boring the game is, overall.
  13. If you’re willing to put up with its annoying design issues, drab appearance, and second-hand feel, you might find that, like a shirt with different-lengthed sleeves, Prototype holds up so long as no one looks too closely.

Game is decently fun. Plenty of up-close action, decent, but not great, graphics. OK story. Unfortunately I must compare it to inFAMOUS, Game is decently fun. Plenty of up-close action, decent, but not great, graphics. OK story. Unfortunately I must compare it to inFAMOUS, which is a far greater game. inFAMOUS is an easy 9. Prototype is, sadly, a mere 6. Mindless fun, but forgettable fun. Nothing new or interesting happening. It just feels like less effort was put into it. Full Review »

Sure technically the game is very less effective that InFamous with some frame drops, a camera a bit messy when you run, the IA is dumb as f**k ,the military may see you running on the wall, they'll not react even when you're supposedly the most wanted guy of the country, as long as you don't attack them you're good to go; finally the game clearly lacks colors, everything is so grey it's really "boring" to look at Even though the graphics are pretty good with lots of characters, nice animations, and a pretty big map all in all the game is just average technically speaking.

Concerning the gameplay, the strongest point of the game, it's very fun, the different powers are all effective in, at least, one situation, so are the moments when you're in a vehicle and the side activities, event if a little repetitives, are very fun also and the game does a nice job at making them available at a good pace.

Finally the story in itself is pretty weak and you'll have to collect the web of intrigues in the game if you want a true story, the main character is really not lovable and it's hard to even wish for his success. If you finish all the side activities the game will last about 15 hours (20 if you also want all the collectibles) which is the minimum for this kind of game.

In conclusion Prototype is a decent game, pretty fun to play and with just enough content to justify its price, even if the story is weak and the game has some technical issues. Advisable for the gamers who already played InFamous and want more super powers to play with.

I found the accuracy spot on and I didn't feel the graphics suffered whatsoever. Movement was smooth and natural. The ability to go anywhere in the city in 3D is so much better than those games where they lead you by the one way maze. I highly recommend it. Full Review »
