Yet, Ratchet remains restless. An orphan of the universe, he has never known anything of his past, his family, or his Lombax origins. And no one, not even Clank, can fill that void. Unfortunately for Ratchet, someone else is equally interested in Ratchet's origins: Emperor Percival Tachyon. In his thirst for revenge, the vile tyrant of an ancient race of foul insect-like monsters called Cragmites has festered an age-old grudge and is bent on wiping the last-known Lombax off the universe. As Tachyon's forces ambush Ratchet and Clank in their home galaxy, our heroes realize they need to escape quickly to prevent its destruction. In a move of desperate irony, Ratchet and Clank steal Tachyon's imperial warship and embark upon an adventure bigger than any they've experienced- one that will not only unravel the mystery of the Lombaxes, but also test the very limits of their friendship. Quite simply, it's as perfect as a game can be - state of the art in every respect, from graphics and animation to sound, music and voice acting, to story and script, to level design and environment themes, to puzzles and action, to weapons and gadgets, to hidden items and lifespan-prolonging side missions and collectibles. Truly this is a game that has it all, and the definitive PlayStation 3 title so far.

Tools of Destruction gives Sony something it desperately needs, a solid reason to actually own a PS3.
  3. ToD is every bit a Ratchet & Clank game, well, except for the missing multiplayer game, and a great start for the series on the PS3. This one should be in every PS3 owners collection.
  4. Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction is the future of the Ratchet and Clank series. 100% fun and addictive, anyone who jumps into the adventure will be hooked.
  5. Ratchet & Clank Future isn't a revolution, but it is a marvelously kickass game that'll keep you entertained for hours as you plumb the depths of its huge levels, find creative ways to blow up its monsters and try to ferret out all its dozens of cleverly hidden items.
  6. The return of Ratchet & Clank couldn’t have arrived at a better time. Right now, we stand before one of the best PS3 games for the end of the year.

While games like "Twilight Princess" entice players with familiar settings and gameplay elements, Tools Of Destruction force feeds them. [Dec 2007, p.104]

As of yet, the greatest looking platformer ever made. That's a tough argument to beat. It's cartoon-style and wide color palette As of yet, the greatest looking platformer ever made. That's a tough argument to beat. It's cartoon-style and wide color palette are delightful, and it's humor while at times a bit cliche, is not forced, and is truly funny; something that games nowadays are having a harder and harder time pulling off. The gameplay is an extremely polished revisit to games like Spyro, and Crash. I wasn't a Ratchet fan, but when I saw what this game had to offer, I had to pick it up. It's quality is irrefutable, and the game is executed well. If I had to complain about the game at all, it would be that it wasn't quite long enough. Not to say that it isn't a good length (10-20 hours depending on how many weapons you obsessively upgrade) but in the way that if the game was 60 hours, it still wouldn't be enough. Expand

Another great addition to the Ratchet and Clank series with a few minor annoyances holding it back. The gameplay is as fun as always. IfAnother great addition to the Ratchet and Clank series with a few minor annoyances holding it back. The gameplay is as fun as always. If you've played the PS2 trilogy, you know what to expect, as it hasn't changed much, but if it ain't broke don't fix it, right? The graphics are pretty good, especially considering this game came out in 2007, and the plot isn't half bad either. Sure, there are no trophies and there's no multiplayer to speak of, but I don't think either of those things are truly necessary in an R&C game. What does bug me on the other hand, are the motion controls. Yes, Sixaxis / Dualshock 3 controller motion controls. There are puzzles and falling sections among other things that require you to move your controller around, and it gets old fast. There's even a weapon you control by tilting your controller in the direction you want the projectile to go. Why? Alongside the weapons system the series is known for, Tools of Destruction adds "Devices", which I don't even understand the point of and I hardly ever found myself using. I know I'm ranting at this point, but don't get me wrong - this is a great game that I would recommend to any PS3 owner. Expand

Entertaining for the family. Wonderful graphics. Downside is that it's not 2 player and it's to short. Re-playability just Entertaining for the family. Wonderful graphics. Downside is that it's not 2 player and it's to short. Re-playability just isn't there. Recommended for non-hardcore games looking for a couple weeks of fun. I wish there were more entertaining games like this on the market. Expand
