The game is cool, though I don't think it's worth 15 dollars. It plays like old school brawlers (like Golden Axe) where a group of a Warrior, a Mage, an Archer and a Shaman fight to overthrow a dark power in the realm. I just don't get it why there are 4 available characters but co-op is only available for 3 players? Doesn't make any sense. And talking about co-op... try to create an online public session; it appears that no one is playing the game!! So best choice for co-op is the old, traditional couch co-op. Or playing solo (which is much less fun). That being said, this is a nice game. Plays nicely, has nice graphics and overall feel, but nothing more than that. But it does serve as a cool warm up for the upcoming D&D brawlers and Dragon Crown. Expand

An uninspiring and repetitive button masher. [July 2013, p.77]

Sacred Citadel is the prequel to Sacred 3 and, judging by its parts, should be a great game. However, it doesn't completely succeed. The fighting system is fun, but the amount of combo's is lacking. The game lacks challenge and the story originality. Thus, unfortunately, Sacred Citadel isn't more than the sum of its parts. If you absolutely want to get it, play it in co-op.

Sacred Citadel is a good title, even though it left us a little dubious in terms of the storyline, as the wanting to propose itself as a "prelude" to the future Sacred 3 has proved rather inconclusive.
