  • Summary: SAINT SEIYA - Sanctuary Battle immerses players in the most popular drama from Saint Seiya: the Sanctuary, as Seiya and his companions fight side by side to defeat the gold saints of the twelve palaces and protect Athena. As players complete quests and progress through the twelve levels, they can inflict tremendous damage on their foes with fast-paced Cosmo power-up attacks. [Namco Bandai UK] Expand

  1. Despite its lengthy intro, it isn't quite clear who the Saints are, what they can do and why there is fighting to be done. Only those who know the original stories will be able to fully grasp what is going on. Luckily you do get a decent tutorial. [April 2012, p.90]

A fun Japanese game, but it feels a bit dated, especially in the graphics department.

Manga fans will enjoy this, but it's too repetitive to keep most playing for long. [May 2012, p.89]

Saint Seiya: Sanctuary Battle is the perfect example of a wasted opportunity. Just like most of the games based on popular anime licences, Saint Seiya is graphically awful, but with tons of nice touches aimed to the hardcore fans. If you like the original brand, you could like this game too.

There are explosively brief thrills to be had, but makes it really hard for most peeps to give it a chance. [June 2012, p.72]

Saint Seiya isn't exactly a great game. It's a game that suffers from repetition, an awkward camera, and button bashing to beat generic enemies (bosses save this situation).
  7. It quickly becomes repetitive nonsense. [Apr 2012, p.97]

If you like the tv series, you can enjoy this game. The battles are a little repetitive and the graphics are not the best in this generation, but you can revive the epic battles in the sanctuary!. Collapse

Not a very good game but not a bad game at all ! The gameplay is dynamic and (almost) respects the original story... Graphics are not bad but it could be better, PS3 is able to do a lot better. The game misses a versus mode, and the DLCs are too expensive. That's a game for fans only... Expand

So I bought the game because of nostalgia, this was a cartoon I used to watch every saturday when I was on elementary school and it is the kind of was I was dreaming of back in the day. Im going to start with the good stuff, the characters are well rendered and their power attacks and movements while executing them are awesome... That put a big smile on my face also you can really feel the difference every time you change characters. The sanctuary along with the "battle fields" feel empty and lifeless, the battles are the same literally over and over, and the boss battles are boring and long.

in the sound department... hmm it sucks, poor voice acting annoying laughs, annoying music and worst of all annoying language ( you won't have the tame nor you will be able to read every conversation during battles there for won't understand **** of what anyone is talking about.

This game is for those of us who love the series and already know what happened in the saga. So if you don't know what this is about don't waste your money because you will hate the game.

First of all, such a game must be reviewed by fans of the Saint Seiya series (which is, by the way, the best anime of all time).

    Let's review
each aspect of the game separately, shall we? Graphics: One of the weakest points of the game. The graphics are reminiscent of the PS2 era. And we know that the PS3 is capable of much better graphics than the ones implemented. The game should have graphics close to the ones implemented in Valkyria chronicles and Naruto. I know that the game was made on low budget...But still...The current graphics does no justice to an anime of this caliber.

Story: The Sanctuary Arc story of Saint Seiya in the game is, simply put... Butchered. The story as told in the original anime or manga is epic and unique.
But the game ruins it with cheesy lines and unexplained plot holes. The voice acting is awful too.And the European version should have been dubbed not subbed...But again, budget limitations.

Gameplay: The combat system is somehow decent. Fast paced, responsive, and varied among characters. Unfortunately, the minions fights between bosses is boring and repetitive.

Other: - The lack of local and online multiplayer is unforgivable.
    - Insulting overpriced locked content on disc.
    - Again, does no justice to the series.
    - The anime's beautiful music is completely absent in the game.

Bottom line: the Saint Seiya theme and story provide the potential to be the greatest game on PS3. Unfortunately, the game is poorly executed. Still, I advise hardcore fans of the anime to buy the game full price as I did only to encourage other developers to hopefully realize its full potential in the future.

Saint Seiya...We still Believe...And we still Hope.
