  1. It isn't the best, most popular or prettiest FPS, but if you're sick of all the others, you could do a lot worse.
  2. A fun online experience but I can’t see this continuing to be played long into the future with so many other shooters available. The story may be a little lacklustre but if you simply treat it as a lengthy tutorial, you’ll have a great time online.
  3. This generic-looking shooter may not turn the genre on its head, but it has enough dynamic objectives and satisfying combat to entertain.
  4. Ultimately though, there is a lot of fun to be had in this package, especially for just a $30 download. Section 8 offers an enjoyable blend of frantic FPS action and strategic squad-based gameplay.
  5. There are shortcomings, yes, and it's by no means perfect, but as far as online-only games go (which is what I'm considering this to be), it's got some new tricks up its sleeve.

Although the result is less than the sum of its parts, there is fun for committed shoot-o-philes. [June 2010, p.113]

Unremarkable. This game has bad AI, graphics, and mechanics. There's no redeeming feature at all. I rented it because I thought the orbitalUnremarkable. This game has bad AI, graphics, and mechanics. There's no redeeming feature at all. I rented it because I thought the orbital drop mechanics would be cool. Well, it really doesn't add any flavor to what is a D list video game. Imagine Star Wars: Battle Front mixed with unreal tournament and a bad, linear gameplay engine. Not worth even a rental.
