  1. SingStar doesn't have flashy drums or a pair of licensed guitars, but this game-and-microphone bundle brings PS3 owners the best way to sing on a video game system.
  2. Playstation Official Magazine UK
Unless you're the sort of misanthrope who never invites people over to your place, new Singstar is essential to the PS3 experience. [Oct 2007, p.90]
  3. Games Master UK
On the one hand, it's the same game with new online features. But this will be huge online. [Nov 2007, p.79]

    Dangerously compelling entertainment.

The PS3 finally has its casual-player friendly titan that gamers shouldn't miss out on.
  6. If you like to sing, even just a bit, you'll love SingStar PS3.
  7. Sony has delivered the best SingStar experience ever and they send a clear message to its competitors. This is the way karaoke games should be done.
  8. Though SingStar out of the box isn't quite compelling in the same way some of the more recent releases have been, tracks-wise, the overwhelmingly awesome online functionality absolutely makes up for it and then some.
  9. All in all, the list of songs tells the tale. If you like what you see, Singstar for the PS3 is worth your money.
  10. In conclusion, SingStar for the PS3 is the most complete entry in the series thus far.
  11. Coupled with alcohol, SingStar is definitely an improvement now that it’s on PS3, even if that’s simply because it’s all shiny and new and you can pretty much create your own collection thanks to the SingStore.
  12. Aside from complaining about what songs did and didn’t make the cut, Singstar is a solid and fun game to experience.
  13. If you are a fan of the previous titles you will also like SingStar, but be aware that this outing isn't going to revolutinize your playing experience.

Singstar for the PlayStation 3 isn't fundamentally different from its predecessors but there is very little left to change for the franchise. With a great soundtrack and some long overdue online features, Singstar is a great continuation of the series.
  15. Pelit (Finland)
Playing SingStar with friends is still as fun as it ever was. The song selection on the game disc may be average at best but SingStore is a great way to get more, more, must get more! The songs are moderately priced and almost too easy to pick, pay and download. Also being able to see other peoples performances is great reality tv. [Jan 2008]

SingStar delivers one of the most unique and engaging experiences on the PlayStation 3. It deserves a place in every karaoke fan's game library.
  17. True, keeping with wired mics is still a bother, and there isn’t any online play to be found. However, the facelift, Eye compatibilities and new social networking elements sets the game above other karaoke solutions on the Sony’s system; nay, any platform to-date.
  18. Is it the best SingStar yet? Easily. The addition of the SingStore and community sharing make this one of the better sequel updates in music gaming.
  19. SingStar is not necessarily a game in the traditional sense, but it does make for a great party activity and a good alternative to purchasing a home karaoke machine. If you want to have a good time with some close friends, it certainly delivers that.

SingStar isn't a revolutionary game -- you're still just performing karaoke on your PlayStation. But uploading silly videos and watching other people's creations really adds a new dimension; it gives you what every karaoke star wants the most: an audience.
  21. SingStar for the PS3 shows the promise of what this series will be like and what imaginative ideas Sony has in store for it. Of course I'd be a hypocrite if I didn't mention they've finally added the feature that I've always knocked the series for lacking: the ability to turn down or off the main vocals.
  22. SingStar provides a compelling window to the living rooms of people around the world with its My SingStar online mode that sets it far apart than any other music game in terms of its community aspects.
  23. SingStar is a top notch karaoke game and the online community features gives the game a dimension entirely new to the genre.
  24. SingStar has good karaoke and non-multiplayer online functionality, but it enters a crowded field and is really just "more of the same." Sure, it's a good same, but karaoke is karaoke.
  25. A major step forward for the SingStar franchise, the PS3 version of the franchise is well-conceived and nicely handled.
  26. The complete party package, made yet more essential by all the new features. [Nov 2007, p.68]
  27. Edge Magazine
The constant flow of new content makes it a game that will last as long as Sony’s console does – that is, if you’re prepared to make the financial investment required to maintain a song library. [Nov 2007, p.95]
  28. Play UK
It's SingStar but with just enough tweaks and additions to make it feel part of a different generation. It might be tainted with slight cynicism, but there is no getting away from the fact that this is still an incredibly good party game. [Issue#159, p.86]
  29. SingStore and My SingStar are brilliant additions which significantly change the SingStar experience.
  30. Apparently you can play games on the PlayStation 3, but it certainly looks like a top of the range karaoke machine from where I'm standing, on centre stage in my living room stadium.
  31. It remains the best incarnation of the franchise.
  32. 80
What IS different, and what makes the game worth its purchase price, is the addition of the Singstore.
  33. All in all SingStar is a great game, instantly accessible with nothing to unlock, but plenty of downloadable content available online.
  34. More than a game, SingStar is a vital offering, that will - hopefully – become more and more robust in the next few months.
  35. Now, some of you are undoubtedly super-shy and would never dream of letting the world see you, in your bedroom, singing. That's fine. But if you're a little more extroverted and want a sanctioned location to look like a jackass, or if creatively creating 30-second videos to the delight or disgust of an online audience is up your alley, SingStar is kind of amazing.
  36. Make no mistake – SingStar on the PlayStation 3 is a party that shouldn't be missed.
  37. So, this marks the start of the PS3's entry into the casual gamer market, and we can't think for a minute why this won't be a roaring success.
  38. SingStar’s karaoke action may be somewhat limited in an era that follows the release of Rock Band, where so many other ways of playing are available. However, for enthusiasts who aren’t looking for anything that complicated (or expensive), SingStar should deliver some amusing Friday nights with friends.
  39. AceGamez
If you need a party, and you own a PS3, then SingStar is a great choice and, thanks to the ever-growing online library of tracks, will be even better a year from now.
  40. 80
No matter how you slice it, Sony's first Singstar on the PS3 is a triumph.
  41. Playstation: The Official Magazine (US)
Anyway you cut it, there's an 80-percent chance that you're going to be entertained. [Aug 2008, p.72]
  42. SingStar gives party gamers an alternative to Rock Band and Guitar Hero, but because of the lacking ability of online play, the game’s solo features leave a lot to be desired.
  43. However in the end if your wondering if its time to upgrade to the Playstation 3 version of Singstar, this first entry is a great start and just show’s all of the great that is to come from Singstar on the PS3 in the future.
  44. The presentation is top-notch, and the community features are neat, despite the hit-and-miss quality of the submissions. The amount of premium downloadable content available thus far is impressive as well.
  45. The low amount of songs is well offset by the easy to use download from the PlayStation SingStore and an extra bonus in the online videos you can add to or check out.
  46. SingStar comes really close to transforming the PlayStation 3 into the ultimate karaoke machine.
  47. SingStar virgins and hardcore fans could do a lot worse than start here, but for everyone in between, it may be worth waiting for the SingStore to fill before making the jump.
  48. Singstar is still the best party karaoke game for the consoles, but it doesn’t quite step up to the next-generation with confidence. Instead, it steps up the Brit Pop, and that ain’t what we want. Not what we really, really want. Really.

Unless you have the PS3 Eye-toy and plan on using the MySingStar Online features (an exhibitionist's dream) religiously, then think Unless you have the PS3 Eye-toy and plan on using the MySingStar Online features (an exhibitionist's dream) religiously, then think twice. The polished interface masks a rather barebones package. The in-game songlist is varied but rather weak. The microphones produce very poor quality sound on even the most elaborate sound systems. To date there are 230+ songs available online, but I challenge you to find more than 6 to 8 that you actually enjoy singing. 80% of the songs are random pop groups (many of them European) that I guaranty you've never even heard of. And licensing limitations means that Americans don't get a lot of great 80's songs that ARE available in other countries (i.e. Depeche Mode, Erasure, Morrisey, etc.) And now, they've already released a SingStar Volume 2, which pretty much destroys the promise that this Singstar was going to be the only version you were ever going to need to buy. Well, I bought it... and now I am regretting it. Full Review »
