As a brand new IP, based on an idea that could have completely blown up in EA's face, skate is an amazingly complete experience. Those who choose to relax and skate leisurely -- looking for cool lines and taking on the occasional challenge -- will likely find the most enjoyment.
  2. These controls feel great, and they really need to since the game isn’t in the slightest bit forgiving. When you go for a grind, you won’t magically be transported onto the rail. You have to line it up and pray that you time your jump and adjoining trick correctly.
  3. 100
With its organic controls, beautiful visuals and amazing presentation, it quickly becomes an addicting experience that's tough to stop playing, even during some of the most frustrating parts of the game.
  4. Punishingly difficult but ultimately rewarding, games of Skate's caliber are a rare breed and as far as first attempts go, it's been years since we saw one this accomplished. Just... sick, man.
  5. 90
Built around utterly convincing physics and animation systems and a unique control scheme that's equal parts challenge and reward, it manages to be realistic without being discouraging and feels completely different from not only the competition, but from anything else out there.
  6. [An] incredibly fresh and successful take on skating controls, as well as a wide-open city with six-player online options (we liked the Deathraces and the Spot Battles). Skate is logical, authentic, and blissfully organic. Robots need not apply.
  7. Not only are the controls and attributes of the gameplay itself consistently representative of the chosen sport, but everything from the gloriously dynamic soundtrack and the competition commentary through to the selection of legendry skaters and the division of challenges into schools of skating hits the nail on the head with prowess.
  8. A technical masterpiece of a skateboarding game. It dumps the superhero antics of the Tony Hawk series and goes back to what it is all about: a man and his board. With the innovative controls and the great old-fashioned fun the player will have, Skate is sure to set a new standard for extreme games for years to come. [Oct 2007]
  9. Makes the sport feel like it should: sometimes laconic, often dangerous and always, really, really hard. Which, of course, is what makes it such fun. [Nov 2007, p.96]
  10. A stunningly realistic simulation, Skate is a deep, eloquent, and completely free-form experience. [Nov 2007, p.80]
  11. If you demand a game hold your hand, this might not be truly essential, but if you're seeking the ultimate toy set to flex your imagination, Skate is the perfect way of letting go.
  12. The controls feel fluid, and show people that you don't need to force gimmicks on us to make it feel real.
  13. This is as close to a proper skateboarding simulation as we’ve seen, and is up there in the fun stakes with the best of the x-sports games, but for added realism we’d like to see fewer loading screens, civilians that behave with a mote of intelligence or self preservation and even the ability to get off and walk once in a while.
  14. This approach to skating is a real breath of fresh air, when compared to the over-iterated world of the Tony Hawk franchise.
  15. A fun, addictive skateboarding game that's just a little camera work and a few control refinements short of stardom.
  16. Makes skating feel like it should: often dangerous, and always really, really hard. [Nov 2007, p.118]
  17. While Skate has some small flaws (it would have been a good idea to make your skater translucent whenever he blocks something important on screen), it is rare to find a game that comes so close to doing everything right.

Skate stood out to me due to its open world and graphics. Its world is full of things to do. Its the open world that really made me come back to it so many times afterwords. The story here is also ace. Starting the bottom of the hierarchy of skaters to the top you eventually work your way to the XGAMES. Which is overall brilliant and trumps any other skateboard games story even to this day. Especially due to how good the customization of your skater is. Its controls are what really matters here though. They are smooth and rewarding. Meaning no matter how you skate you'll enjoy it. Full Review »

this game is compleatly awsome and amazing up until the point where it gets so hard it is impossible to continue in the career. the graphics the game play and everything about this game is amazing but i cant give this game a high score because there is a point in the game where it is impossible to go any farther in the game due to the difficulty.
