Jul 6, 2014This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. I'm going to review this based on several categories, gameplay, stability, visuals and replayability.
The sniping mechanics are all there in their fully glory. This is no Call of Duty son where all you do is drop the crosshairs on what you want to hit. No! The mechanics remain largely unchanged from V2, which is a good and bad thing. If you're expecting Call of Duty Rambo crap, all you will do is make a lot of noise and die. Good in that it still remains as real as I've seen a game get to shooting though a scope (I target shoot with a scoped Mosin-Nagant and Saiga Rifle+POSP 4x scope). Which is good since this the main reason anyone would buy this game. But it's also bad in that few real improvements were made from V2. The weapon selection is still pretty dry even with the DLC.Having a scoped version De Lisele Carbine or the PTRS-41 would have been awesome additions. A shotgun would have been nice secondary as well as the ability to aim down the sights of the pistol and secondary. You can now customize the reticules which is also a nice little thing, and the rifle's stats keep them from all being the same. You can still customize the difficulty though a point of contention I have is that even with Limited Tactical Assistance, you still have aim assist which in my opinion defeats the purpose of this game. But with out it, you lose the minimap as well as the ability to tag targets. In close quarters the camera can sometimes be your worse enemy since unlike Uncharted you can't switch the shoulder the camera is looking over, potentially having your character model blocking the guy shooting at you. You can customize your rifle, but the options are pretty limited, to just the trigger group, the barrel, stock and scope. You can't add anything to it like a bi-pod or extended magazine (K 98 with a trench magazine would have been cool). You do get an equipment wheel now much like Resistance and Resistance 3's weapon wheel making accessing items and bombs more intuitive. Lastly now there is a something of a semi-replenishing health meter much like the one in Resistance and Resistance 3 with the Chimaera Virus cheat enabled.
The level designs this time around are much less linear, think of the mission in V2 where you are going though the bombed out German city, the section before having to blow up the V2 the Russians were launching into London. There's also a greater emphasis on stealth, not to the extent of Metal Gear Solid, but enough to feel familiar if you're a fan of that series.
As of writing (I was told a patch is on the way to fix this) there is a can't advance bug in the third level. There is a segment where you must tag an enemy officer. Problem is when you have no tactical assistance, tagging is disabled, rendering you unable to pass this portion without restarting and ensuring that the difficulty is set to allow tagging. Aside from a single freeze that may very well be a rare occurance, I haven't seen any other game breaking bugs. THE GAME IS STILL BEATABLE, which is why I only knocked off 5 instead of all 10.
NOTE: As I said supposedly a patch is on the way to fix this, if the matter is fixed then I would score this a 9/10.
Visuals and audio: 7/10
It ain't the prettiest game I'll tell ya whut. Visual glitches galore from textures going from fuzzy to detailed all of a sudden, to a strange glitch with the Mosin-Nagant where you see a clip of 5 rounds stuck to the player character's hand. Dead bodies will spaz out if they land in a corner. In the final level speech audio will play too early or too late. Also the rifles all largely sound the same. I have a Mosin-Nagant and a Lee Enfield, both of which make an appearance, and their report and the sound of their bolt do not sound the same.
As mentioned there is a lot more customization this time around and I doubt many people will get everything the first time though. Second play though you have all your unlocked gear.
Overall: as is 27/40, if the fix the can't advance issue I noted then 31/40
Overall it's a good game, but it could have been a better game. It's largely more of the same from V2 and it does feel like it has less polish than V2. Still SEIII is still a welcome addition considering that there aren't very many console games that have realistic shooting physics. The final score I'll give will be what I expect for a post patch fix on that can't advance. 7.7, guess I'll need to round up then.… Expand

Jul 3, 2014I've played the other games in this franchise and I like challenging games, but this is an awful game. For a start they have used XboxI've played the other games in this franchise and I like challenging games, but this is an awful game. For a start they have used Xbox controls in a PS3 game which is an instant fail. Secondly the levels are truly repetitive and beyond tedious! You can follow all the rules of the game and it still "magic's-up" an enemy from nowhere to kill you. They have tried to expand on a game mechanic that isn't strong enough to cope with the improvements; by this I mean you have a weapon wheel now and a fast select, but often when you select a new weapon you can't turn left or fire the weapon for several seconds. Enemies can shoot you through solid objects or even without being there; cul-de-sac = no enemy, turn around and get shot in the back by an enemy who wasn't there a second ago, and who couldn't have got there from anywhere else. Even though you have successfully evaded the enemy, they still know where you are. The game is pretty and that will, unfortunately, be enough for many gamers.… Expand
