Sega have succeeded in adding just enough tweaks and extras to convert the unconvinced.

Sonic CD's obtuse level design and time travel gimmick remain as divisive as ever, but for $5 it's easy to pull the trigger for fans and newcomers alike.
  4. This SEGA-classic is considered by many to be the best Sonic-game ever made. Sonic goes so fast in this iteration that he can even travel through time, making the pimped out DeLorean from Back to the Future seem like a pushover. [February 2012, p.101]

You´ll get an excellent Jump'n'Run featuring this special, distinct look of the early 90s and a few almost brilliant and some otherwise still great stages. If it weren´t for Sonic & Knuckles, this would be Sonic´s crowning achievement of the past.

Complaints aside, I've really enjoyed the recent time I've spent with Sonic CD. The game begins to shine after you get accustomed to traveling through time and exploring each unique level. This downloadable rerelease is an easy choice for fans of the series or anyone interested in some pure platforming goodness.
  7. This is the meanest Sonic game ever. Springs will punt you into spikes, the layout works against you as it's hard to get the blue fella up to speed, and the 3D special stage (a rip-off of classic SNES game F-Zero) is tripe. Bummer. [February 2012, p.76]

It has 60 frames per second, 16:9 wide-screen, HD pixel filters, there are two types of spin-dash, you can choose the soundtrack you like more, every theme is perfectly looped . The special stages has been improved as well, it supports leader-boards and trophies and it's only 5$. It feels retro, nostalgic, but not outdated I recommend it to every gamer who likes platform games. Expand

The controls are tighter than ever, the graphics are crisp and scroll as smooth as butter, there is both the American and Japanese soundtrack to choose from and the whole game has been perfectly upscaled for modern displays. It's coder Christian Whitehead did a perfect job and even outstripped the original. That said, however, I have never been overly keen on Sonic CD. In my opinion, the stages are far too dependent on bumpers and flippers...etc. You spend far too much time pinging around with very little control and not nearly enough time actually platforming. The time travel concept, though cool in theory, never really works as well as it should either. Great bosses, though. Collapse
