Sports Champions 2 delivers on what it intended to deliver: fun and easy sports games that everyone can pick up, play and enjoy, but the gameplay isn't deep enough to keep us playing for hours.

Probably the best Move game around. Which isn't saying much unfortunately.

Sport Champions 2 is, ultimately, an upgrade over the last chapter of the sports sim on Playstation Move.

Sports Champions 2, just like its predecessor, attempts to overcome the throne of Wii Sports. Thanks to the new sports included and the same, funny gameplay, it partially achieves that goal. Unfortunately, some issues with the controller drive the game off-road.

A wasted opportunity to redeem PlayStation Move, with a horribly uninspired range of sports that barely work any better than back when they were Wii Sports games.
  6. A less satisfying package than the original, but it's nevertheless a strong showcase for Move. [Dec 2012, p.116]

While there's nothing technically wrong with the game, it just feels like there's so much missed opportunity with Sports Champions 2.

You really shouldn't bother at all. [Issue#225, p.81]

Even though Sony obviously took a good look at Wii Sports to get some inspiration for this sequel, it is fun to play, mainly thanks to the tight Move controls. But why are just six disciplines on display?

Sports Champions 2 is an unoriginal, predictable, yet satisfying experience.

Move is still a gadget that you can do without – Sports Champions 2 doesn’t change that. [CD-Action 02/2013, p.70]

The game is technically proficient but unfortunately Sports Champions 2 fails to offer the unique and interesting events that the original did. There are better examples of most of the sports in other packages or more focused games.
  13. Building on that solid foundation, its more polished sequel gives armchair athletes another great reason to get off the couch. [Holiday 2012, p.76]

If Sports Champions 2 contained all the previous game’s sports and added a bunch of new ones, it would have resulted in a much more complete title than the current offering we have here. So unless you crave endless character customisation with a few regular sports (that have been done better in other games) thrown in, then you are better off picking up the original title over this sequel, as it will be much cheaper and far more enjoyable.

What Sports Champions 2 lacks in visuals, sound and originality is balanced for the most part by its accessibility; however the end result is an entirely average experience. The choice of sports is questionable with many events having been done before in other games, even for the PS Move.

Sports Champions 2 feels more like an expansion than a full sequel, but the low price point, a few well designed events and the party mode makes the game worth a look if you want a good party game for your PlayStation 3.

The five sports are well executed and there's plenty to keep you playing – from the core events, challenges, online scoreboards and multiplayer. In many ways it feels indicative of motion-controls reaching a maturity of sorts; sure, the carefree magic of its youth may be fading, but it still delivers a polished and satisfying, if slightly uninspiring selection of sporting goodness.

Sports Champions 2 tries to do better than the first title with new events. Skiing, Boxing, Golf or Tennis are now to be played. Déjà-vu but far more relevant. Motion control mechanics are pretty good but the gameplay isn't deep enough to really keep us playing for hours. There are only six events available anyway.

I purchased a copy 2 weeks back and have enjoyed playing it since. Most of the games only require the one Move Controller, which is also good. Let Full Review »
