This game is the perfect game to pick up with some friends and just laugh your asses off. It's creative, funny and well crafted. It's weirdness can compare to the likes of Katamary Damacy or Nobi Nobi Boy. For me this game is already a classic.
At first glance the party aspect of the game is all that can be seen or said about this game, but for me it's become alot deeper than that. I've spent alot time playing with my brother and trying to master the game mode Pole Divers and it got me thinking of how well crafted this game is. It's not just a party game, It's also fighting game that can be compared to the likes of Street Fighter where timing and mastering the different technique makes all the difference. You have to calculate and time your jump and you have learn the technique to controll airtime and speed to win at this mode. Just this mode alone makes this game worth the money. The game also contains the intense BariBariBall. With four players its a blast.
If you're one of those people who lives to party (and honestly, who doesn't?!), Sportsfriends deserves an immediate addition to your game library. It comes with four unique competitive experiences that are worth checking out, even if some are better than others, and the presentation and gameplay each one presents is truly inventive--and a far cry from what you've come to expect with NBA Jam. Dig in, and don't forget your friends.
As a game, it has problems. Indoor spaces will struggle to contain more than a few players (the maximum is seven) and with no rules governing conduct, smaller players are at a natural disadvantage if competition escalates. Still, as a statement of intent it is extraordinary, and feels characteristic of what Sportsfriends sets out to achieve – a realisation that simplicity and good company are the root ingredients of enjoying games, and that far from being decisive, visual sophistication might actually be entirely irrelevant.
A fun and admirable collection of multiplayer games that will bring people together. The only issue is that none of the games are compelling enough to ensure that they keep them coming back.
Game is a complete blast to play. Obviously you need atleast 1 other player but every game is different and completely hilarious and well built. These are not just Warioware-esque mini games but full on multiplayer games with ALOT of depth. If you are having some friends over this is a must buy!
A very good little game with some very addicting and fun minigames to play with friends family. The minigames differ a lot from each other and all have some addicting feeling to it. Let's play that one again!
Tried this out for this first time tonight with 4 players, it's really a fun local co-op game worth picking up imo. Now comes the meh stuff about it. The 4th mini-game "Hokra" is not really too fun if you're playing with people that don't game a lot, just kind of quiet and dull. Another problem is it can be a pain to follow your character sometimes, could use a better indicator for sure. It'll probably last for about an hour or two of fun each play session, good replayability. Don't really want to go into details with the mini-games because they can be tough to describe. Now It would improve a lot if there are going to be updates coming with new mini-games.
Sportsfriends is one of those games where I just can't understand all the hype. There are only four mini-games on offer and they range from mildly entertaining for a short while (BaraBariBall) to completely pointless (Johann Sebastian Joust).
The one redeeming feature is that the simplicity of the games does allow non-gamers to compete with more experienced gamers but there are so many better titles (Towerfall being a current favourite of mine) available if you are looking for something fun to play against friends and family in the same room.
To complain about that would be missing the point, though. Sportsfriends is a waste of time and a social side game, if you dont have hipster friends, then this is nothing to look for. their ability to bring a room together in one loud, if you dont like titles like Towerfall and Nidhogg then its nothing for you. i played pixelgames in the 90s, im sick of it. this compilation is a pleasant reminder of that power - and, just like its companions, Sportsfriends represents video games at their very, very weakest time.
This is a waste of time ;)
