  • Summary: Stacking is the second downloadable game produced by THQ and the award-winning Double Fine Productions. The adventure of Stacking requires players to capture and stack dolls together, then use each doll's unique abilities to solve the game's challenges. As more puzzles are solved, new dolls are acquired and the game's visually lush, carefully constructed story unfolds. Collapse

Stacking proves that lively character and set designs, catchy music, and clever writing are far more important in making a good game than simply simply adding filler to extend the quantity of gameplay hours.

If the $15 price tag makes you question such a gamble, just know that there is plenty of content to be had. While the main story quest can be completed in a few hours, each area has a multitude of secrets, from special challenges to complete and dolls to find as well as Hi-jinks that make use of the crazier abilities.

    One of a kind. [May 2011, p.91]

Charlie Blackmore's adventure is very beautiful and meticulously designed - with charming music and game mechanics that haven't been seen anywhere else. But creativity cannot alone earn a score, and Stacking lacks too much soul and is too careful when it comes to its humour.

  1. Another winner from Double Fine! I can't keep from smiling when I play it. The art, music AND gameplay combine to form a fresh (and shhhh... approachable) take on the adventure game genre. Expand
  2. The nice unusual idea, the great interior, the steampunky/chaplin style, the interesting puzzles to solve, the perfect piano music to keep playing while making and eating a breakfast or making something in your garden. Niice. Double Fine are the real art-house, that do not calls art-house itself. Double-Fine FTW! Expand
  3. Stacking is a cute game in which you have to solve puzzles using the special powers of different types of Russian stack-dolls. The game feels like a throwback to the PS2 days, when puzzle based titles like Herdy Gerdy were released every day. Stacking is fun and has a great art design / graphical style. it will keep you entertained throughout it's duration and is good value for money. But despite it's charm and good qualities, Stacking still feels rather like a side dish and not quite the main course. Expand
