  1. Excellent graphics, simple controls, no tilt and just a really fun game, Super Stardust HD is the must have game for PSN.

So is Super Stardust HD better than "Geometry Wars"? That is something that will likely come down to personal preference. I happen to much prefer Super Stardust for its diversity of gameplay -- multiple weapons, multiple stages, multiple ways to build up score -- and its better graphical and aural presentation.
  3. SSHD is a great package - it's complete, timely, expertly produced and at just £4.99 it's absolutely essential for any shooter fan.
  4. In every other respect, Super Stardust HD is an absolute star, the jewel in the crown of the PlayStation Store and quite possibly the best purists' shooter to appear on console since the legendary Geometry Wars.

Addictively satisfying mechanics, great visuals and tactical yet simplistic design. In truth, and I say this as a heavy duty "Geometry Wars" player myself, Super Stardust HD is not only just as good as Bizarre Creation's it's in many ways better.
  6. Graphically, as PSN games go, Super Stardust HD is superb, and it nicely combines the neon glow of Geometry Wars with the detailed retro pixel work of the first Stardust. The difficulty level is spot on, providing a challenge without causing a headache.
  7. If you have room in your heart for yet another Robotron clone, Super Stardust HD is a good addition to this well-worn genre.

I put off buying it for the longest time because I expected it to be a bad attempt at geometry wars but it turns out it's even better. Also this is the only game I've tried so far that's worth playing in 3d, it still kills my eyes but it's really fun. Expand

Awesome in 3D! The whole planet and all objects are in 3D and it looks superb, especially the asteroids and explosions. The 3D patch/update isAwesome in 3D! The whole planet and all objects are in 3D and it looks superb, especially the asteroids and explosions. The 3D patch/update is free - you've gotta love that! The only catch: it's maxed at 720p (Sony's 3D requirement) but I'm sure would also have perfect 60fps in 1080p. With Sony granting an exception for GT5 with 1080p 3D let's hope they relax the rules a bit for other games with high frame rates too. Expand

High-score hounds might find this one worth a look. For all intents and purposes it's a good game that delivers some solid twin-stick shooterHigh-score hounds might find this one worth a look. For all intents and purposes it's a good game that delivers some solid twin-stick shooter fun. However, now in a time where the genre has been dominated by the likes of the newest Geometry Wars this feels kind of bare.

To be honest it kind of feels like a version of Geometry Wars where all of the maps are the same shape (spherical). Blasting you way through the levels and racking up that high-score is pretty fun and will likely get it's hooks into the more competitive players out there who want to get their name high on the leader-boards. For the rest of us there isn't enough content to keep us in it for the long haul.

The cooperative modes do add some extra life to the package, but with only two single-player offering out of the gate that have the exact same levels it's up to the DLC to keep things going. Tossing out those extra dollars is only going to be worth it to those really into the game, especially given it's age.

It's a good game. One with solid, arcade-style gameplay. If you like high-score hunting this is a good choice. Just keep in mind that it's light on content and has some age on it.
