    It's nice to see developers refine some of their titles rather than treat them like guided rockets, with a "fire-and-forget" method of development. Refinement is good. But releasing those refinements in a full priced new-release package is an almost unforgivable attempt at making more money from an already world-popular title.

    Long story short: Good refinements but should be a patch or

    This update is far cheaper than the industry standard of $5 a character. The game is constantly being tweaked and balanced for competitive play, with a free version 2012 update being recently released. If you own an older copy of this game and aren't constantly going back to it, you wouldn't need this update. If you are constantly playing this game, you can upgrade your disk based version of Super or buy the DLC. Great edition to a wonderful fighting game. One of the staples of the community. Expand

    I have played nearly every type of fighting game and this is the by far the best game I have ever played in this genre and even the might street fighter 3 is pale by comparison.

    I good addition to Super Street Fighter IV. It's much more than just 4 characters, most characters have had a few changes to them which changes the game a lot and how it can be played. If you're still active online, get it. If you want to get into Street Fighter IV, get this addition on disc.

    It is definitely a good addition to the already branded as the best fighting game of all time (Super Street Fighter IV). The developers also release the balance patch 2012 version which makes this game complete. The only thing that I have NOT see from this series is the character that has a combination of five different fighting styles (Street Fighting, Martial Arts, Kickboxing, Wrestling & Submission). The character that has speed, power of grappling skills & submissions in one. This would definitely create a higher level of "X" factor excitement. Expand

    First of all I love this game and the series. Gameplay is well balanced and the online mode is decent. But Capcom should be aware that the success of the series is due to fan loyalty, and unfortunatly Capcom doesn't seem too grateful for that by making us pay for new content. This should have been a simple patch, especially if the main purpose is to rebalance characters. Capcom never puts all the characters in the first itteration because they know people will pay for new characters even though they bought the game on day one.
    I just bought Street Fighter X Tekken on day one and I'll probably regret it.

    I want to preface this review by clarifying that my perspective is one of a competitive player. This game is somewhat better for casual players than it is for competitive ones, though I would just suggest playing the original release of Super to the former in that case. Moving onward, Capcom, specifically Yoshinori Ono, advertised this iteration of the Street Fighter IV series as an agent of improvement. There is a saying that more than sufficiently wraps up the actuality of its being: "If it's not broken, then don't fix it." In "re-balancing the game," the designers have managed to destroy any semblance of balance that the initial release had. Granted, the latter was by no means an exemplar of equality amongst characters in a fighting game, it still had nowhere near the disparity between the "high-tier" (more successful) and "low-tier" (less successful) characters as Arcade Edition does. Case in point: Yun, Yang, and Fei Long are significantly better in damage output, recovery, speed, etc. than the rest of the cast. The fact that two of these three characters make up half of the newly-added fighters. This fact leads me to think that Capcom took little to no time in testing Yun and Yang to check their abilities in relation to the others'. They did not only fail to balance the game's roster, but they also embodied laziness and disinterest in making the new edition novel and fresh. While they added four new characters, they decided to not add story modes or trial modes for them. Also, the new character choices (excuse the subjectivity here) are incredibly boring. Two of the four are versions of fighters (Akuma and Ryu) that have been in the games since the first Super Street Fighter IV release. Capcom has an extensive and colorful pool of character choices, but they decided to re-add two of the game's current fighters in new form. In conclusion, you will have to download this game if you desire to keep up with the competitive community, but it is by no means the pinnacle of the sub-series's excellence. With Arcade Edition ver.2012 coming to "re-balance" yet again, one can only wonder if the designers can repair the damage that they have caused with the first version. Until then, you can enjoy watching over 9000 Yuns at SSFIV tournaments. Expand

    A very solid title, as it should be, Capcom have released it in various skins countless times by now. This third iteration of Street Fighter IV may be the best, emphasis on may, but is completely worthless as a purchase. It offers gimmicky extras for casuals and slight addresses to gameplay balance and new characters for the metagame, all of which could have been offered in the form of cheaper DLC or heaven forbid, a patch. The online mode seems to be more robust, given how blatantly repackaged the content is I doubt it will see much use. Expand

    Frankly, the game is very exploitative same part of the market down 3 times in two years because of new clothes or movements and strikes New!! This is called exploitation of man!! Capcom is not a company with respectable customers never ...

    Despite being very little more than a patch as its own standalone release (albeit one you can upgrade for $14.99 or $9.99 from Super), this is still a disaster. Super SSIV wasn't exactly a shining example of gameplay balance between its roster. Some characters were still very clearly better than others in every meaningful way, while others were absolutely useless. SSIV Arcade Edition does nothing significant to change that. Sure, it's no longer so bad to be Ken Fighter IV as the ludicrously overpowered Ken dominated in the original showed us, but the characters here are certainly not on equal footing. If you don't get what the problem here is yet, I'll explicitly state it: The online scene is dominated by a few select characters, while every other one is ignored for being obviously inferior. After so many iterations of the game, this is totally inexcusable, and it's beyond my comprehension how Capcom can continue to allow this to be the case while seemingly being in no rush whatsoever to fix it. Almost all matches boil down to who can jump over the other and land a quick attack first, over and over again, until someone goes down. The brief second of vulnerability you get when your opponent's back is turned means everyone is constantly jumping at each other. Focus attacks are far too slow to be very useful, and there is no particularly useful way to defend oneself, as this is almost an entirely offensive fighter--the first person to get their combo in is the one who wins. But, in any case, get ready to see all the Ryu clones online, along with Jun and whoever else they added in this version with clear intent to make them superior. This is just awful, as I don't want to see Ryu over and over again online, or any of his clones with the same or nearly the same moveset, but that's what you get. Ryu, Ryu clone, Ryu. It gets old really, really fast, but when the Ryu clones are clearly superior in every way to the other characters, what can you expect? Unless Capcom does something to fix this absolutely ludicrous imbalance in the roster and make defending a jump possible, I don't think I can tolerate this much longer. I don't want to play Ryu or a Ryu clone, I want to try someone new. This game essentially forbids that, unless you want to lose every single time. Highly disappointing. The $9.99 upgrade from SSIV they now charge just isn't good enough, considering that they advertised this as a massive balance patch, but completely failed, miserably and catastrophically, to deliver. Just awful. Capcom dropped the ball hardcore on this. Expand

    SSFIV: Arcade Edition brings everything that previous iterations have brought to the table, but with four new characters and some tweaks to the gameplay. Hardcore fighting fans will salivate, but casual fans will wonder.

    Ultimately, Super Street Fighter IV Arcade Edition is a super-sized character expansion pack to an already impressive game. For 1,200 MSP ($15 USD), you're getting four new characters, a slew of balance changes and some tweaks to the online experience. It's not a revolution in play, but if you've already mastered Super Street Fighter IV, it does make the experience fresh again.

    Regardless if you choose to make the jump to the Arcade Edition or not, Street Fighter IV is always worth playing.
