Symphonia alone is worth the price of admission.

If you'd like to know how easy it can be to ruin an excellent work, you can cry yourself to sleep thinking of all the squandered potential in Dawn of the New World. But if you can bring yourself to ignore it, this is still a fine reissue of a great game.

Thanks to its cel-shaded style, the first half of this classic JRPG has aged exceptionally well. [June 2014, p.78]

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles is definite must-have for any Playstation 3 owner and/or fan of JRPGs.

The games translate very well to modern times and are worth every penny spent to add them to your library, with at least 40 hours of gameplay in the first one alone. Oh, did I mention that they also have trophy support?

If you are a fan of the Tales Of series this is a golden chance: one of the finest installments of the series is now available in the glory of HD, and despite Dawn of the New World fails to keep pace with its bigger brother, Tales of Symponia alone is worth the price of this collection.
  7. 81
Despite my lack of excessive enthusiasm for half of what this collection offers, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles is still an awesome bundle to have, if only for the first game alone.

As long as you know what you’re getting into thematically, graphically, and gameplay-wise, you’ll enjoy your time spent with Tales of Symphonia and ToS: A New Dawn.

I would’ve loved to give this compilation a higher score but the sequel really brought the entire experience down. That said, this is great value for your money and the original Tales of Symphonia more than justifies a purchase.

Overall, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles is one half fantastic and one half decent, but more importantly, it is easily worth the price of admission for the first title alone.

Colorful yet dark, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles effectively communicates its theme about ending discrimination while providing a fun and sometimes emotional playing experience. Dawn of the New World uses a similar formula, but loses the charm.

Despite HD treatment you’ll realize how old the originals are. But as ugly as it might be on the outside as outright beautiful is the content that is hiding behind the mask.

This is a delicious bundle recommended for all who have not played the original Tales of Symphonia. As a bonus, you’ll receive the sequel, although it’s a smaller game.

Still, when it’s all said and done, Tales of Symphonia is a classic that I’m sure many have missed due it being exclusively on the Gamecube in the States, and this is the perfect opportunity to check it out in its definitive form.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles may only offer up one game of utter brilliance, but it carries the package just fine on its lonesome.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles is a great bundle for every JRPG fan. The original Symphonia published on Nintendo GameCube and PlayStation 2 was missed by a large number of players due to the lack of popularity of the Tales of saga into the Western market. Namco Bandai is now working hard on the JRPG side, listening to the fans' feedback.

It might be a somewhat disappointing porting with its 30 fps cap and everything, however Tales of Symphonia still shines as one of the best jRPG in the long lasting series and Dawn of the New World, mediocre as it is, is a decent enough closure which adds even more hours to an already lengthy adventure.

Even though we could have seen a better adaptation to PS3, the quality of the games, the extras and the amount of content they have to offer make it a collection worth considering.

These days, when Japan RPG titles are struggling to survive against the Western RPG front, the old school feeling is more than welcome. This is what Namco Bandai has done: Looking back to a not-too-distant good old times and bringing us back one of the best Tales ever made. Add to the mix a reasonable price, a sequel and min +70, max +150 hours of quests, Overworld Maps, Cities, Dungeons and some HD anime cutscenes, and you have a good offering if you like the genre or just the Tales series.

Overall, though, this is a bundle worth its price of admission for the first game alone, especially because it’s been taken care of so well by Namco in this remastering project.

An excellent HD port of two classics in the Tales of saga. PS3 owners and fans of this kind of adventure will be happy with this HD collection.

While only half of the package is truly worth the price of entry, the fact of the matter is Tales of Symphonia is required reading for JRPG fans. If you've been itching to get into another giant quest filled with twists, turns, and a top-notch battle system, this is your chance.

Chronicles as a whole is incredibly enjoyable and certainly a worthy HD port of a beloved JRPG.

Again, Tales of Symphonia Chronicles is worth picking up for Tales of Symphonia in HD alone. It remains a fantastic RPG to this day.

A couple of nice touches to the drawn elements of the two games, a few extra costumes, and the opportunity to select the voices in Japanese are not enough to make us cheer for the return of these two titles. At the same time, Tales of Symphonia is still one of the best JRPGs ever made.

Tales of Symphonia Chronicles is a wonderful addition to any RPG lover’s library and a showcase of the best the Tales series has to offer.
  27. Tales of Symphonia Chronicles includes the PlayStation 2 port of Tales of Symphonia and Tales of Symphonia: Dawn of the New World. With new costumes and new 3D graphics, the story seems so nostalgic.

After all these years Myst is still a masterpiece, a brilliant game that deserves acclaim. [05/2014, p.73]

Symphonia is a great reminder of how Tales has hit such impressive highs in the past, and although the decision to port the technically inferior PS2 version leads to framerate gripes, this is perhaps the best version of Lloyd Irving and co that you are going to get without dragging your Gamecube out of the loft.

Tales of Symphonia deserves your attention. If you can stomach JRPGs at all, you owe it to yourself to check it out. The biggest disappointment in this compilation is the sequel, so we recommend picking up the first game cheaper from the PlayStation Store.

The high-definition visuals are hit and miss, but the engaging combat and tried and true character customization continues to satisfy, concluding that the Tales of Symphonia series can withstand the test of time.

It's a shame that Namco-Bandai didn't decide to pair Symphonia with a Tales game much more worthy of the re-release treatment, because Tales of the New World is disposable at best. But if you still want to play one of the best installments of the series, and don't feel like digging out old hardware, Chronicles could be an ideal opportunity to revisit Tales' finest hour.

Tales of Symphonia is a solid, old-school Japanese role-playing game that I'm glad to have been exposed to. But that doesn't make Namco's sparse anniversary package less disappointing.

Somehow a port ot a ten year old game becomes.......the best game in the PS3 library.

This game was a classic with deep challenging
gameplay, a massive adventure, a top-notch story, a great soundtrack, great characters, and the newest edition has dual audio, 720P resolution, and although the battle framerate technically drops from 60fps to 30fps, this actually leads to a smoother experience as there is less stutter/slowdown.

If you're an RPG fan, you owe it to yourself to play ToS. It's nothing like the mediocre Xillia or the terrible Graces F, by the way.

Such a great JRPG. Tales of Symphonia Chronicles has outstanding graphics - one of its strongest points. The combat is phenomenal, and the adventure element is to die for. I highly recommend it! Full Review »

It has to be said. The original Game Tales of Symphonia is still one of the Best JRPGs of all Time.
This collection has such a large content
    for this price...
ToS 2 is not quite so good, but not too bad either, but simply for the first game on this disc...its just unbelievable good.
Played it now for nearly 10 hours, and the graphics are not that bad for a HD-Edition :)
