Motivated by personal revenge, Sean fights, climbs, and races through open-world Paris, sneaking into the heart of the Nazi operations and sabotaging their every move. With the help of the French Resistance, the British intelligence, an arsenal of weaponry, street smarts and brawn, players exact revenge on those who aim to destroy Sean's life. From derailing trains and blowing up zeppelins to scaling famous Parisian landmarks and more, this action hero uses a broad range of weapons, explosives and vehicles to get the job done. As Sean takes down enemies, the citizens of Paris are empowered to resist the tyrannical Third Reich and their eyes open to the colorful world around them. This innovative mechanic, called the 'Will to Fight,' change the way Paris is seen and felt - from a dark and oppressed policed state to a bright and inspired world where the citizens fight back. As the player executes acts of sabotage against the occupying force, color returns to the stylized black and white world - both figuratively and literally. The ‘Will to Fight’ spawns an underground resistance that takes players not only through Paris, but across various parts of France. [Pandemic Studios] Expand

  1. The Saboteur is a fun, if not fairly short game with a solid storyline in tandem with its WWII theme.
  2. The Saboteur is one of those games that gains points due to its atmosphere and setting, making up for any shortcomings that might pop up due to the fact that the game is yet another open-world sandbox game, or if you want to be more cynical, Mercenaries 2 in a World War II skin (which it admittedly is, just way more polished).
  3. Overall it’s a solid game which will appeal to fans of Mercenaries 2, but sadly serves as a demonstration of lost talent with Pandemic paying the ultimate price during these difficult times.

The Saboteur borrows plenty of great elements from other games, but doesn't execute on them as successfully. That's not to say there isn't fun to be had because there's plenty. It just isn't as well constructed as many other similar games on the store shelf.
  5. Pandemic's effort is commendable, but The Saboteur feels like it had a saboteur of its own lurking in the code. No matter how many times I came back to The Saboteur, or how badly I wanted to love the game, the unrefined gameplay became less, and less tolerable.

It's too rough around the edges. [Issue#187, p.67]
  7. The Saboteur held much promise, which unfortunately never materialises whilst playing.

The main character is a very likable Irish race car driver turned resistance fighter. Gameplay consists of driving around Paris and the surrounding countryside, planting bombs on various Nazi installations, and engaging in plenty of shootouts. Unlike some open world games, there's a gigantic amount of stuff to do here, with your primary story, secondary missions, and well over 1,000 free roam targets to destroy. You can also collect plenty of vehicles to drive, from race cars to tanks, and acquiring new weapons and other things adds a nice RPG aspect to it as well. I also loved the theme music in the game, it really game it an authentic '40s atmosphere. Overall a fantastic game. Expand

Awesome story, BEAUTIFUL artwork and lots of options. I definitely got a sense of anticipation during some of the final missions, EXCELLENT storytelling. There were more than a couple bugs and map holes (which got REAL obnoxious during the escape with Skylar) which soured the game for me a bit, but for the most part it ran smoothly. The ending was kind of abrupt and anticlimactic, but overall a thrilling game. Expand

I knew I was making a mistake buying this, but I let my boredom, love of Pandemic's first release (Full Spectrum Warrior) & my sadness I knew I was making a mistake buying this, but I let my boredom, love of Pandemic's first release (Full Spectrum Warrior) & my sadness of this being their final game get the best of me. The game doesn't do anything terribly wrong, but it doesn't excell at anything either. Graphics are extremely outdated just like their earlier Mercenaries 2. The controls are clunky. The climbing is slow & maddening. The driving is awful & handles very poorly. The missions are your standard Mercenaries missions with only a WW2 twist differentiating them. The film noir look is unique but makes everything too dark to appreciate it. Overall, this is just Mercenaries 2 in a different time period & it's just as outdated, half-assed & disappointing. This was Pandemic's last game & they went out with a fizzle. They're always remembered for Mercenaries & Battlefront, but I'll remember them for their first & most original, unique & best game that has always been universally ignored by the masses, Full Spectrum Warrior. ehh. this game was just boring imo. I mean it's playable, but I just didn't have the drive after a few hours of gameplay, but that's just my opinion.
