For the raw, skittish tension of the decisions you make? The Walking Dead is unmatched. [Issue#221, p.79]

Technically, this game isn't superb. Luckily, every other aspect of The Walking Dead Episode 2: Starved for Help is. Bloody action, though choices and a great story with well-developed characters make this well worth your while.

Episode 2 is an experience that is completely different to anything you can find on the PS3, if you've already bought Episode 1 then there's no doubt you'll pick this up, if you haven't, then now is the perfect time.

Proving that you don't need zombies to make a great zombie story, Telltale ups the ante in almost every way with Starved for Help. Even more brutal than the content in episode 2 is the wait for episode 3.

Telltale Games has a gem on its hands. If the remaining three episodes of this series are anything like the first two, The Walking Dead may very well go down in history as the greatest adventure game of this generation.

Although fans of Robert Kirkman's comics might recognize plot points lifted directly from the black-and-white series, this is still a gut shot of an adventure sure to keep you creeped out for the three or four hours that it lasts.

The stellar writing and character development continues at a superior level, and the decisions the game asks you to make are gut-wrenching.

It's definitely a different experience than the first episode (including its additional technical issues), but that's what I want out of episodic content.

Starved for Help continues to explore the moral ambiguity of a post-society world, albeit focusing more on the human threat this time around. There is a narrow margin between right and wrong, and forcing the player to genuinely question what to do or how to act in virtual environment is a remarkable accomplishment.
  10. In terms of gameplay you can still expect the same simple running around, talking to people and mashing buttons when you get attacked by a zombie. Story-wise however, this episode does what it needs to do. [September 2012, p.86]

Despite a non-optimized to best development, undermined by haste to publish the game, it remains impossible not to be affected by the quality of the second episode of the series The Walking Dead.
  12. It's also more predictable, with fewer affecting decisions than the first part, but that's not to say that you won't umm and ahh over what to do on multiple occasions. This is still an excellent piece of narrative-driven gaming, where you grow attached to the cast and enjoy/endure the consequences of your actions. It's where Heavy Rain meets the zombie apocalypse, and that should be enough to sell anybody.

It works now that they released an update that finally makes Episode 2 work, when I first downloaded it every time I would try to play the new episode the screen would go black and it would return me to the PS3 main menu, but the update fixed that. And I'm really glad it did, this episode is better than the first. It's really awesome how your choices in the previous episode affect how this one plays out, they effect which people trust you and which people will help you. This episode is also a lot more brutal than the last one was, and the choices this time are even tougher to make and forced me to gain new opinions about members of my group. My only complaints (other then it not working at first) is that it's got some minor technical issues like it will freeze for a second of two to load in the middle of you playing every now and then. If you liked the first episode you'll love the second, TellTale delivered, all I ask of them is that they don't make me wait so long next time (unless they have a legitimate excuse that they TELL US ABOUT!!!). Granted it's a bit late, but you know what? It was actually kinda worth it, while it seems like some choices I made in Ep1 has been "changed", it was pretty much a good continuation, some twists you'll see coming miles away and some you won't, depending on how much you're able to piece together. Although even though I saw most of it coming, it's still the emotional side of it all that really gets you, some choices I had to make in a second, others I had to think long and hard on, all with pretty serious consequences. Although it's not really impressive from a technical standpoint, but that doesn't really matter, I'm really sold on the characters and really getting into it, doing what I would do in the same situation. I may never have experienced the golden age of point and click games, but I sure am glad I got my eyes on this and I'll be sure to follow it, heck I've paid for the season pass so I don't have much choice, hehe... Anyway, I give it an 8/10, while it was very good, it's really the technical problems that holds it back with the fact that it seemed to have changed some of my earlier choices. Full Review »
