If you're on the lookout for a great flight game, look no further. H.A.W.X. 2 is the best game of its kind and will keep you wannabe pilots busy for weeks to come.
  2. 85
Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X 2 is a great game. It's got different storylines that you're going to play trough with a lot of dogfights and new elements. The game is for the most part good, only the graphics aren't really great and it's kind of strange that you can die during a cut-scene.
  3. Hawx 2 is a much more complete game than the previous one. It doesn't have that futuristic gameplay mechanics of the first one, but it has more variety, with more classic gameplay but at the same time much better for the good mission design, full of twist and new situations.
  4. H.A.W.X. 2 corrects most of the flaws from the first game. The strong variety in missions and challenging dogfights make it the best game the genre has to offer up to now, but there is still room for improvement. Especially the lack of competitive multiplayer modes and the cumbersome lobbysystem fall short in comparison to the rest it offers. It doesn't take away from the fact that others will have a hard time to take back the throne.
  5. When everything is laid out in the debriefing, it's clear that H.A.W.X. 2 has made worthy improvements on an already solid concept. True, the adversarial multiplayer still won't ignite many people's afterburners, but almost everything else about the game has been tweaked as per player feedback. If you enjoyed the first title, you should definitely engage. If you were on the fence, we think there's enough new stuff here to make you bank over. [Oct 2010 p.72]
  6. The Die Hard of this genre will certainly be pleased with this entry in the series.
  7. Fans of the first game will definitely find this arcade title very likable with the upgraded tweaks and enhancements to the gameplay.
  8. Ultimately, H.A.W.X. 2 is a must for Tom Clancy and flight-sim fans.
  9. This sequel won't disappoint anyone looking for a standard midair action game, but it's not going to change your perceptions of the genre.
  10. Tom Clancy's: H.A.W.X. 2 tries to introduce some variety but the new missions will bore dogfighting fans. It's still a fun game, anyway, especially if played online with some friends, and graphically it's a solid title.
  11. While there is a ton of content in this game between all of its modes, all but the missions that take you out of the cockpit play out similarly (take out this target, destroy these planes, and repeat).
  12. The flying itself is what matters most and despite the drawbacks, you'll still feel your palms getting sweaty during some of the more dynamic, challenging missions. That being said, the AI spikes halfway through, the control can be iffy during specific actions, the graphics are a little inconsistent, and the special non-flying objectives don't quite cut the mustard.

Tom Clancy's H.A.W.X. 2 is really a case of more of the same. Fans of the original will enjoy the minor tweaks scattered around, but newcomers likely won't find anything to set this game apart from others in the genre.
  14. Fans of the first HAWX will no doubt derive a great deal of joy from another hearty dose of solid dogfighting, but then everyone else will feel the same sort of confused indifference towards the story and will quickly grow tired of shooting down wave after wave of jet fighters.
  15. For all its sheen, H.A.W.X. remains a curious sideshow in Tom Clancy's murky world rather than a star player.
  16. A well-produced sequel to the original that manages to repeat many of its problems. It's still fun, but it's a shame Ubisoft Romania feels little inclination to challenge its established mould – doing so could have yielded a far more interesting end product.
  17. The system exhibits the surging tendency of a car accelerator rather than the smooth steady power flow of an aircraft's thrust lever, making for an irritating dance of micro-inputs during the delicate maneuvers. [Nov 2010, p.80]
  18. H.A.W.X.2 is a good game that tries to change something in the dogfight genre. Some missions are really different from standard, and the multiplayer is really nice, both cooperative and competitive.
  19. A decent flying game that gives you a fair amount of adrenaline when you take to the skies.
  20. Dogfights in HAWX 2 can be exciting, but some dodgy AI and lackluster missions stop this game from being an air combat ace.
  21. 69
The storyline's barely even worth mentioning over the fact that it's so much of a parody of itself it hurts. [Issue#196, p.89]
  22. When you add all the features up, H.A.W.X. 2 is an improvement over the original, but there is still room to grow.

Overall HAWX 2 tries to build on the solid foundations laid by the original game by adding more variety, but ultimately it fails to recreate the action packed feeling the first game did so well and simply doesn't make the same impact.
  24. HAWX 2 delivers intense aerial combat and some spectacular views, but gets repetitive after a while and can be very frustrating in single-player mode. Make sure you can play coop before you buy.
  25. Beyond missions that are a touch more variable and slightly better attuned to the story, it's hard to see where HAWX 2 improves over its predecessor. The first game struggled to rise above its own monotonous gameplay and this tedium is only amplified by a sequel - mired in the same monotony - that's been released only a year-and-a-half after the original.
  26. Variety makes H.A.W.X. 2 better than its predecessor, but the core gameplay is still pretty much the same. If you are into aerial flight combat, then you will enjoy H.A.W.X. 2.
  27. 58
If you're looking to get in on some air combat without a huge wait, you may be disappointed. More hardcore flight fans, however, will eventually find an enjoyable experience somewhere beneath the fluff.
  28. Ubisoft really dropped the ball with this title. What should be an exciting fast-paced aerial combat game comes off more frustrating than anything because of its control issues, poor A.I, and just downright infuriating level designs.
  29. A bit of a stinker. [Oct 2010, p.96]
  30. H.A.W.X. 2 is one repetitive ride that offers little thrills outside of crashing.

Back in the day I used to be a flight sim junkie on PC. Then consoles got way cheaper thaqn PCs and Hawx2 was my first flight game in a long long long time. The aircraft graphics are good, but beyond that reality flies straight out of the window and vanishes into the distance. Hawx2 is to 'F16 Fighting Falcon' what Doom is to 'Operation Flashpoint'. Once I got used to my F18 carrying 96 (or whatever) missiles and got into the game its great fun for a five minute airborne deathmatch, but please can't someone release a real flightsim on console? This game is fun as hell! I've been waiting for this since I finished H.A.W.X. 1. 2 lives up to my expectations and then some. I played through the single player and am now playing the multiplayer nightly. The matches are fierce. It's awesome to vie against fellow gamers in head to head fights. I'm having a good time and will keep playing online for a long time. Well worth the purchase. Full Review »
