  1. It may not revolutionize video games in any way, and will come and go with little fuss, but that doesn’t mean that you should let this little gem pass you by.
  2. Definitely a major step in the right direction. But at the end of the day I can only recommend this game to Transformer fans. The solo play is interesting for a bit, but quickly gets repetitive.
  3. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a lot of things, but it is a far cry from the complete disaster some have claimed it to be. It's glitchy in places, difficult to control, repetitive, devoid of a decent online mode and worst of all, it dangles the free roam stages in front of the player – and said bonuses are empty wastelands of sheer boredom.
  4. Revenge of the Fallen lacks the polished sheen and balance of some of its competitors – its looks are average, and the level design and mission parameters are painfully typical. But when the Transformers themselves are freed from silly plotlines and allowed to stand or fall on their own merits, as they are in the multiplayer modes, their distinct set of abilities make them truly engaging.
  5. A fun action game that gets more right than wrong. Fans will enjoy immensely.
  6. Overall, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a mindless and fun third-person action game that should suit the needs of Transformers fans.
  7. While not a bad game, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has its share of fun moments that manages to shine through the game’s many weaker elements. The campaign is rather lengthy and that’s a good thing but then again there’s not much variety either.
  8. As a whole Revenge of the Fallen is a solid package. Though the melee combat is practically counterproductive and the odd accidental transforms will nag at you here and there ultimately the game delivers an entertaining go of things.
  9. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is not a revolution in movie based games, but it is not a bad effort. It is entertaining to go wild with the Transformers and we love the chaos. However, the game is repetitive and the story isn’t very long.

Revenge of the Fallen is just a competent third-person shooter, with bland presentation, a fun multiplayer mode and some cool unlockables.
  11. The game is glitchy, dull, and kinda broken.
  12. 64
The second Transformers game contains a little more oil, but still doesn't quite cut it. The graphics and the sound are okay, but the game doesn't give the right signals. Because of the extras Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is interesting for the fans, but for everyone else there's not much to look at here.
  13. The game is more enjoyable than the movie, but only if you intend to put your skills to the test in the competitive arena.
  14. If you are looking to play a game to get the experience of multiplayer while not actually being online, this may be the game you’ve been looking for.
  15. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen might not be the Transformers game fans have been waiting for, but it is an improvement from the last Transformers movie tie-in game... which wasn't too hard.
  16. It is certainly an improvement over the original game, but it's still not at the quality it should be this far into the generation. It lacks innovation and diversity, with an end result that is a boring and highly derivative experience.

Comes up short in a number of categories, due in large part to its repetition, odd control layout, poor AI and almost total lack of presentation. Running around and just shooting stuff has its merits, though it does get old after a bit.
  18. Transformers – Revenge of the Fallen isn’t the greatest action game to ever grace the current generation of consoles and as such will only appeal to fans who will love getting to play as some of the favourite characters from the movies.
  19. It all amounts to a game that'll keep you busy for a few hours, but only because you want to unlock bonus content or score achievement points/trophies. If you're into disposable content and transforming robots, Revenge is a decent rental.
  20. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is a game that one should only buy if they are an absolute die-hard Transformers fan and must have it for their collection along with their Optimus Prime underwear and Bumble Bee lunch box. For gamers who like the movies it is at most a rent for a weekend.
  21. What Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen has going for it besides the coveted movie license is a fair amount of missions, the ability to play as both Autobots and Decepticons and the unexpected online multiplayer, which isn’t always a given in movie-games.
  22. The game is better than both the latest movie and the first game, but it gets tiresome to just bash robots for hours on end. However, the control is both easy and advanced at the same time, so kudos for that.
  23. Playstation Official Magazine Australia
ROTF is a snack to finish - expect to knock the whole thing, both Autobot and Decepticon campaigns, over in a day - yet there's a perverse sense of accomplishment when the credits roll, despite the hit-and-miss graphics, awful music and weak sound effects. [Sept 2009, p.69]
  24. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is in many ways an improvement over the weak first game. The online-multiplayer works well just like the enjoyable fighting-system. The controls take some getting used to but fit the game once you’ve mastered them. The downside is that missions lack variety and the game has uninspired level-design. What remains is an enjoyable game that unfortunately doesn't impress in every way.
  25. A game that will certainly appeal to fans of the franchise, but falls short of its full potential.
  26. A mediocre action game that should have had more time to get polished. Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen feels unfinished, with the same repetitive missions and missing cutscenes.
  27. 58
If nothing else, Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen is an apt representation of what you'd expect from a Transformers movie: a disposable, explosion-laden piece of mindless entertainment featuring robots beating the crap out of each other.
  28. It is true that there are plenty of playable characters, but nevertheless every mission stays quite the same. If you’re a fan, you may add even this one to your collection.
  29. PSM3 Magazine UK
Managers to nail the Transformers spirit but bores with its repetitive gameplay. [Sept 2009, p.72]
  30. The controls and lacklustre level design are the biggest problems you'll have to overcome in order to enjoy Revenge of the Fallen.
