  1. At $40 for the PSN file, it may be the most expensive downloadable game you buy, but it’s currently the best online multiplayer title to hit PS3.
  2. In the end the company has created an excellent game with good graphics, great controls that you can change, and one that runs smoothly even with 32 people playing at once. Warhawk is truly a benchmark for the PS3 and easily one of the best games in its lineup.
  3. With the amount of chaos the game throws at you, the options, and the diversity in gameplay, this one's a no-brainer. Warhawk is simply the s**t - and I highly suggest you ignore any naysayer who says otherwise.
  4. It's a masterpiece of balance, of design, and the jewel in Sony's online crown.

Warhawk is an extremely well-designed online multiplayer game. We're sure that once the initial rush at retail has settled down a bit, regular fans of the game can look forward to a solid online experience with the great potential for future downloadable maps, skins and so on.
  6. You're going to need the patience of Job to persevere in the early stages, but if you manage it then you're in for one of the best multiplayer experiences available.
  7. Playstation Official Magazine UK
The constant pressure of combat, fuelled by rapid five-second respawns, keeps the action ripping along at a formidable pace. [Oct 2007, p.94]
  8. Simply put, Warhawk is what gaming dreams are made of and the reason you will want a PlayStation 3.
  9. Perhaps the highest praise I can give the title is that despite Sony's concerns with overpricing a multiplayer-only game, Warhawk, lacking all single-player capabilities, is worth every bit of the full price for games of this console generation.
  10. I'm taking a big risk rating the game as high as it is right now, and if for some reason things aren't worked out in the next week or two, this score is going to drop like a rock, but when the game works, it's absolutely amazing. Here's hoping makes it.
  11. There is no doubt about it, Warhawk is a great game, and is one of the new reasons to go out and purchase a Playstation 3.
  12. Warhawk provides one of the most compelling online experiences on the PlayStation 3. The visceral, fast-paced and often chaotic action fits the game perfectly.
  13. Official Playstation 2 Magazine UK
Highly addictive with a damn near perfect gameplay balance, Warhawk is the bomb. [Oct 2007, p.119]
  14. 90
When 32 players go at it all at once, the intensity of firefights is over-the-top. Warhawk for PS3 deserves every good review it gets.
  15. If you've got a PS3 and an online connection, it'd be silly to miss out.
  16. 90
There are always a large number of players online whatever the time of day with the dedicated Sony servers usually holding the larger 32 player battles.
  17. Warhawk's soul lies in its online battles and that's all it has to offer.
  18. With a full complement of rifles and grenades you're only as deadly as everyone else around you - pick a good clan (with headsets and tongues) and devote the time, and you'll have an absolute blast. Warhawk is easily the best multiplayer game this generation. There, we said it.
  19. It definitely give PS3 owners something to tide them over until some of the bigger titles hit later this year and next year. I look forward to coming home from work and playing for 30 to 40 minutes and getting new ribbon or badge.
  20. Pelit (Finland)
Warhawk is simple and tight net combat game. There is only five maps, which sounds bad, but the levels are huge. Everything works just fine and flying with awesome planes is sooooo fun. [Nov 2007]

It may be multiplayer only, it may not have bots, and it may have a steep learning curve, but Warhawk lives up to its billing: a AAA experience that is an adrenaline rush for online fans. Large worlds, balanced combat mechanics and impressively deep server mechanics help this fast paced game soar.
  22. The 40 dollar download feels about 10 bucks too much on principle, especially with the lack of a single-player campaign and only five maps. But this is simply the best online experience on the PS3 as of now.
  23. It seems a little odd to not have any single player options (outside of learning maps and practicing on a LAN game), but for those gamers that spend the majority of their time playing against others online, Warhawk is a good investment either way.
  24. 85
It's not easy to create a multiplayer game that's utterly accessible to first-timers and yet varied enough to have serious legs.
  25. This game has a stripped-down feel, but the exciting gameplay certainly makes up for those feelings. This is blue versus red across multiple modes and maps, in the land or in the air. And it's excellent fun.
  26. 85
Warhawk is not groundbreaking, the developers will admit that, but what is there is the best of the best.
  27. With some great graphics and great multiplayer gameplay, Sony and Incognito have made a great successor to the PSone original.
  28. Games Master UK
Sweaty-palm online gaming that gets better as teamwork develops. [Oct 2007, p.78]
  29. Play UK
A remarkable addition to the Network roster, Warhawk is probably the most fun we've had with our PS3s yet. That said, some of the gameplay is uneven, but the dogfighting alone should sell this to you. It's a joy. [Issue#157, p.78]
  30. At its best, Warhawk delivers constant thrills through exciting team-based action that'll have you coming back for more if only to rank up to the next level in your leaderboard standings. At its worst, Warhawk will disappoint because you'll never really get a good context or sense of the world around you, since there really aren't any plot or characters to deliver those elements.
  31. The complete lack of anything for single players hurts it a little bit, as does the unreliable stat tracking, though everything else is fine-tuned to near perfection.
  32. The game looks great, can be really addictive, and offers a variety of ways to enjoy the experience that Warhawk offers.
  33. But if you are happy to play the game online all of the time and don’t mind an initially steep learning curve, Warhawk actually proves to be an enjoyable and engaging game; it’s arcade leanings making up for a slight lack of sophistication, and an impressive sense of scale making up for the lack of visual ‘wow’ factor. Overall, a surprise hit.
  34. 80
The controls for the plane are everything they should be, and echo most every other aspect of the game: a tightly polished product that is simply intuitive. Though the action became intense and sometimes frustrating, I was always ready to jump right back into the mix.
  35. Electronic Gaming Monthly
Like many, I was pretty bitter at the loss of the originally planned single-player mode, but what Warhawk ultimately evolved into is a fantastic, accessible take on "Battlefield". [Oct 2007, p.94]
  36. Incognito has taken the DNA of Battlefield and crafted a sublime online console game - a virtual battlezone that serves up more than its fair share of wonderful audio-visuals, but more than that, plays beautifully, with every game you play supplying a key gameplay moment that only online gaming provides.
  37. A superb online experience...a beautiful combat game full of breathtaking scenery and plenty of chaos.
  38. Edge Magazine
Warhawk's manic pace makes for an instantly gratifying experience, and its brilliantly implemented notion of flight and considered balance among combat options more than compensate for the slenderness of its offering. [Oct 2007, p.90]
  39. Price concerns aside, though, Warhawk packs a lot of depth into its rapid-fire multiplayer matches, and its sheer variety, rapid pace and endless fun make it a must-play for PS3 owners.
  40. 80
Warhawk is an excellent example of a multiplayer-centric game that almost anyone can get into. There is nothing complicated or revolutionary in the design, but the mix of combat styles, large maps, great controls, and a ready supply of players more than make up for the lack of originality.
  41. As an action-shooter on the most basic level, there's little to fault, making for a better game of soldiers than you might expect considering the developmental angst.
  42. It is a next-generation title at a last-generation price that boils gaming down to its purist form. Warhawk is a cheerily violent and fantastically developed version of playing with a dusty box of army-themed toys, and it is enormous fun.
  43. 80
A highly enjoyable game and one that’s easily recommended to those who crave competitive play with a good dose of chaos thrown in.
  44. It obviously won't satisfy those looking for a long, deep, story or a rich customization palette. But it's got enough adrenaline in its little heart to put up a remarkable fight.
  45. Warhawk is no "Halo 2," but it's still the most compelling reason to take your PlayStation 3 online.

This is the touchstone against which all other MULTIPLAYER games should be measured. Don't make games contingent on some sever that'll be gone in five years if we're lucky, make it multiplayer only. Meaning online and local, splitscreen for both. But I will fault it for not having bots, that gets it a nine. Full Review »

The multiplayer stages are massive and full of places to discover. The controls are nearly flawless and add to the challenge of besting your friends. Teamwork is a massive component of his game and when done it works out perfectly. And when you think that you just about done everything, there is dlc awaiting. Boy is it worth it. Not only is the dlc incredibly creative and useful but it is also balanced so that it isn't a huge advantage to have it. All in all this game was the reason I got into shooters. Buy it immediately if you have not already! Full Review »
