After 19 years, X-Men Arcade finally made its way to the PS3 and Xbox 360. A few things like the redesigned heads-up display changed, but sound and graphics are still 1992. They make sure you get your retro-feelings, fighting enemies like Juggernaut, Pyro or Magneto.

If you're 30 years old or older and played this game at the arcades, I don't see why you would overlook this. In fact, I implore you not to.

The core gameplay is fast-paced and it controls like a dream. There isn't a lot to it, but what's here is a blast.

If you did frequent arcades in the early '90s and remember just how fun X-men Arcade was, though, this is a must-purchase.

It's ludicrously mindless, and yet button-mashing through hordes of robots and cheesy villains is simply a good time.

Your enjoyment of this title will vary depending on your nostalgic feelings towards the original arcade game and the beat-em-up genre overall.

Half of the appeal of X-Men: The Arcade Game is nostalgia, but the other half is still a genuinely fun experience. No, it's not as flashy or deep as any current-generation game, but there's still something to be said for taking control of Wolverine in his bright yellow spandex and mindlessly ripping through hordes of evil robot minions. If you're a solo player, you might want to pass, but if you regularly play with a group, especially a local one, then it's worth checking out.

So yeah, X-Men is a game with limited appeal to very particular niche, but it's something I'm personally extremely happy to have, and it's nearly identical to what I played in the Arcade.

Expensive but worth it for nostalgic thrills. [Issue#203, p.98]

Death comes frequently, but infinite continues completely erase the once-brutal challenge of the original arcade coin-op. [March 2011, p.77]

Beat-em-up, side-scrolling brawlers like this worked great when there was a fear of losing all the tokens you'd work so hard to buy with your allowance, but once that imminent threat is removed there's nothing but mindless button mashing and endless continues in your future.

Storm's thunderthighs remain strangely alluring though. [Apr 2011, p.118]

This review contains spoilers, click full review link to view. Konami is the most hated gaming company at this current state as they fire their best employees and they abandon their most popular franchises. This game was made in ta time when Konami was known for making high qulity games and this was was no exception. This is easily the best game in the X-Men franchise. Sure the plot doesn't bother going into depth with the themes that the franchise is known for. In fact the story line can be summed up in just one sentence "Magneto wants to take over the world, you must stop him". It is as simple as simple can be but it was made in a time when games where not known for given engaging narratives. But to its defense though the story knows that it is cheesy and it has a lot of fun with the tone. You can play as one of six characters which have different abilities to exploit. My personal favorite to use is Night Crawler with his acrobatics and his teleportation. The dialogue is so cheesy that it is especially worth a laugh especially with the "Welcome to die line:. The combat is monotonous but is still satisfying as you punch the enemies to submission. It knows what it is and doesn't try to be anything else and it is all the better for it. It is a fun game with a sense of self awareness that is worth your time playing with a friend for a laid back weekend. Full Review »

It's certainly a great to finally not have to worry about waiting in line, or having enough quarters to play through the whole game. I love classic brawlers, and this one is pretty good. The robots are dumb, the story is silly, but there is something rewarding about punching and kicking bad guys, rather than shooting them, and this game reminds you of that. I give it to fists up.
