Alien: Isolation represents a strong return to form for an ailing franchise.

While it has a few rough patches and may prove too slow and drawn-out for some players, Isolation does an amazing job of capturing the essence of a classic film and recasting it as a video game. It can be a little too easy to see the man behind the curtain at times, but this is nevertheless one of the finest film-to-game adaptations ever... and a fantastic stealth adventure in its own right.

Alien: Isolation will make you scream in both frustration and euphoria but succeeds where many games of this franchise have failed.

Alien Isolation does not make all the dreams of the franchise fans come true, but makes a huge step in that direction.

There have been a handful of Alien games over the years, but none have delivered an experience so close to the intent of the films as Isolation. With visuals authentic enough to have been ripped right from the movies and a terrifyingly intelligent monster as the primary antagonist, Alien: Isolation makes for a memorable experience, and clear proof that Colonial Marines was the fault of the developer and not the material.

Unlike its titular organism, Alien: Isolation is decidedly imperfect. The story falls flat, your objectives lack a sense of accomplishment, and the campaign drags on longer than it should. When the gameplay is at its best, however, Isolation delivers the thrill of being in the Alien universe, something fans like me have waited a long time to properly experience.

It’s a bad sign that the weakest parts of Alien: Isolation are the parts with the alien. You’d think getting that right would be a priority. Instead, the best parts of the game involve running around space corridors and turning space handles and flipping space switches and pressing space buttons and getting through space doors and turning on space generators. But then an alien comes along and forces you to play something else entirely.

This is my second most favourite survival game i have ever played as this really delivers on SEGA's promises. But my favourite part of this game is the story as players immerse themselves into the world of Alien. I would say this game is a definate buy for all survival fans, horror fans, even for the players who are looking for a great game to play through. Expand

At it's roots, this is a (fantastic) stealth game, and not a survival horror game.

If you're really not into stealth games, you probably wont have as much fun as I had with this.

Alien Isolation delivers one of the most harrowing and unnerving survival horror experiences in years. Capturing the vibe of the first filmAlien Isolation delivers one of the most harrowing and unnerving survival horror experiences in years. Capturing the vibe of the first film with absolute precision.

the sound design and presentation is impeccable, the alien an unstoppable force whose unpredictable nature makes every second of the game feel nauseating. The voice acting is sublime and it is a universe to get lost in (no pun intended)

Creative Assembly have not only created one of the best survival games in years, but one of the best alien franchise experiences since James Cameron's sequel in the 80's.

it is claustrophobic, violent, heart stopping and you will die over and over again.

the ride will be worth it.

The nostromo is wonderfully designed and looks great in its simplicity. The gameplay very much requires you to craft items as tools for your survival and to use your wits and instinct to hide. Run and deceive the xenomorph which is ready to seal your fate. The motion tracker is your primary survival tool and is essential as an Assault rifle is in C.O.D. An extremely tense experience with an eerie soundtrack to match. When you do get to grips with firearm in the game, gunplay does feel a little wonky. The xenomorph looks amazing and is the star of the game. Creative assembly have really done their homework. One of the gamea of the year and definitively the scariest Expand

This review contains spoilers, click expand to view. This is a great genre firstly and I want developers to keep pushing it. As others have said this is the best Alien game yet. We're moving in the right direction people! The game has many intense moments, maybe too many. You are constantly stressed which can be good or bad. The sets are amazing. Sound effects great too. The alien truly is scary. It's not a short game, but this is also the CON of others. Might be too long for the repetitious nature of it. Lots of lever pulling, button pushing, door hacking and other gadget use. It's ok I guess, that future has lots of those things.

The one thing that stood out to me most throughout the game (as an Alien lover) is that they seemed to avoid (or dropped the ball) on using the original music and ambient music from the movie more. You hear it in spotty places, but they really missed an opportunity to use the various score elements throughout the game. This was an easy thing to do that for some reason didn't happen. have to dock a point for that.

This is mainly a 3D version of a age old text game called "Wumpus!" Those of you old enough to know what that means, bravo! It's primarily sneaking and hiding. Engaging in combat with anything usually ends in tears. Which is a shame. It should be a bit more rewarding to defend yourself and kill things. The androids? I don't know what to say....they are all virtually terminators....scary....yet annoying....

The plot is kind of weak moving from this to that....without much of an arch. You solve one problem after another in this game and those problems have sub-problems and so on. Most of the time you seem to be moving backward from your goal. Stressful. Frustrating. But I suppose that's the point.

Accomplishing a goal is not all that rewarding. They could have done something cool with the music to make it a bit more enjoyable, but progressing through the game is satisfactory given the difficulty level.

Yes, the Alien is all-seeing, all-knowing. It knows where you are going and is already there skulking around looking for you. While I see the need for this, it breaks immersion some. If there are more than one Alien, then why not make it possible to kill one? That would be more interesting and give us some breathing room to accomplish other tasks.

    SPOILER:
You spend the first 30% of the game risking life and limb to find a medpack for a wounded person you just met at the beginning of the game only for them to die later....but why????

There are a lot of novelties in this game used in other games. voice recorders (bioshock), terminals (fallout), etc. That's ok I guess. It fits the setting.

Anyway, despite its shortcomings, misfires, overlooks and lifted memes, its still fun and makes you want to finish it for the sake of it. let's hope future Alien games keep moving the bar forward.
